Will we be entitled to buy goods duty free when travelling to and from the U.K. when our “wonderful new future” begins at the end of January 2020?

The duty free allowance will suit me. At the moment Margaret pays about £60 for a litre bottle of good Islay malt when coming back from Edinburgh airport. I know that all airport shops overcharge, but travelling with hand luggage means that can't be avoided. I'm looking forward to finding out what she'll pay next year. The only good thing to come out of Brexit!

Thanks Jim.

Does this start when the withdrawal exit bill becomes law or is it at the end of the

transition period( whenever that is)?

Personally I’d sooner pay £60.00 a litre for single malt and not have Brexit!

I completely agree with you, Alec. As I understand it, it will only apply after the end of an agreed transition period - which might be the end of this month if the EU parliament don't sign off on the agreement.

Of course there never was any such thing as "duty free"!

I’m sorry Movingon, that’s a bit deep for me..
