Good question - all I know is the yellow near me in El Galan is for oil. The Green Wheelie bins are for normal rubbish and garden waste is put next to it neatly by the road so it is collected.  Most have the wording on and what I am going to do is take photos then do translate on google to get the wording.

I'm new to La Marina too and I've been told NOT to put garden rubbish next to the bins as it must be taken to the waste centre.  We used to be in Cabo Roig and put the garden waste next to the buns there.

Thanks Gilly09 and Bella 48, that has been helpful. I have been looking in the bins to give me some idea to what the locals do

The green bins are for general household waste, in bags. Then there are yellow bins for plastic containers, tetra-briks and cans. Paper and cardboard goes in the big blue containers marked "papel" and there are big green dome-shaped containers for glass. Garden waste must go to the council compound. Large items of furniture etc also go to the council dump site, but if you can't take them yourself, the council will collect them from you free-of-charge.

Hope this helps.

Geoff.

Some of these answers explain why the bins are very often full of the wrong stuff.   Usually the grey bins are for general rubbish, blue for paper and cardboard things, green for glass stuff and yellow for plastics.

I love in la marina and our bins have pictures on them. Very helpful i thought they were all like that. The only thing that confuses me is that the grey bin has a picture of food leaving nowhere to put general non recyclable waste. Everyone puts it in the grey bin. I wonder if they recycle food waste.
