I will be moving to Denia and wanted to hear if it's best to keep my British mobile running as well as getting a Spanish phone, which I know I will need.  I didn't really want to keep my UK phone running, but wondered the costs for receiving calls from the UK and making calls to the UK from a Spanish mobile phone.  Would appreciate your experience/comments on this.

I've kept my UK phone and bought a Small Spanish phone. Alot of places you deal with in Spain won't contact you on your UK phone. It depends on how you use your phone really. If you intend phoning the uk a lot i would use my UK phone as it's cheaper.

Summing up: l have a Spanish phone for Spanish business and English phone for Uk business.

For example: l can't get Barclays Mobile Banking app on my Spanish phone.

Hope that helps somewhat

Thank you, makes sense.  I was hoping the calls to the UK would be cheaper and I could ditch the UK mobile.  I guess I'll keep both.

Thank you.

Thank you very much, that's very useful to know.  I will keep both phones.

Hi,

You keep your uk phone mate,it doesn’t cost anymore to phone in Spain now, than uk,so you can use your minutes the same as you do in uk,also receiving calls now cost nothing.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Just check with your supplier, mines Vodafone, and it definitely is,and I’ve asked others and they are as well.

It was a government ruling, because they were charging to much for uk residents on holiday abroad, and it only applies in Europe, not any countries outside Europe.

I’m on Vodafone, and been using my minutes for over two years now,so will never buy a Spanish phone.

Also,it don’t apply to phone Spain from uk,that will cost you,but you can still do that if you pay a fiver a month, but I don’t bother as I go to Spain a lot,and I only phone when I’m out there.

We have hedged our bets!  I kept my UK Vodafone account and my partner, Mike, got a Spanish mobile.  His bill is dearer than mine as my texts are in my plan - his are not.  If you can, have one of each to keep costs down and, yes, What's App is brilliant.
