Any advice that can be offered would be apppreciated. Am I best to just buy everything in Spain?

We shall be taking ownership of a holiday apartment in November. We have ordered the larger items of furniture, ready to be installed when we arrive, from a company in Torreviejca.

We intend to drive over from the UK, so could bring some items.

We shall need all the usual household items for the kitchen, (pots, pans, cutlery) plus bedding, towels, and a hoover (Dyson?) etc.  We thought Ikea might be the place for plates etc. I have seen reference to 'Chinese' shops, are they good value?

Do people use steam cleaners for the tiles in the apartment, or just a mop?

Are there any items that we would be better buying in the uk and bringing with us?

We shall need bedding but not 100% cotton, as sold in Ikea,  as it needs ironing! I would prefer a mixed fabric. What shops are there in the area that would be worth visiting?

Any hints or advice from people's experiences would be good to hear. Thank you.

Thank you very much for your advice.

That is the sort of help I was hoping to receive, and will certainly look at the Yorkshire bedding people on line, and Dunelm here in the UK.

For once I have to disagree with Pete!

Whilst I wouldn't buy an electrical appliance from a chino, they're ideal for low cost stuff and a have very large selection of items.

For examples, we've recently bought crochet cotton, wire reinforced clothes line, flex, garden sprayer, wine and whisky glasses, lighting strips, etc. I also bought a food thermometer for when I want to temper chocolate, which works perfectly well - chino price €3.95, Lakeland price £15.99.

Ref steam cleaners, we do have one but it's not used very often. There's no discernible difference after using a steam cleaner or a mop on the floors.

You do need to be careful about buying bedding out here, as Spanish bed sizes are different to UK sizes, and companies like Yorkshire Linen who sell UK sizes make you pay for the privilege. Spanish pillows are long and thin, and pillow cases are just a sleeve of material, although you can buy UK style pillows and covers on some markets, like that in Almoradi.

If you've got any favourite food items, then have a look at overseas.es to see if they sell them and what their prices are. My wife likes Kenco Milikano coffee - if I remember correctly that's two pounds odd in the UK but six euros in Iceland here.

If you're a DIYer, there are lots of things you won't find in Spain - junction boxes, twin & earth cable, washing machine stop cocks etc etc.

Thank you so much. This is all very informative.

We will definitely check the bed sizes, for sheets etc, and maybe bring pillows with us.

It sounds like the Chinese shop will help with the small items that we forget to buy in Ikea! And maybe the wine glasses!

Thanks for the food shopping hint. I was wondering if I would get Carte Noir or Kenco coffee easily.

I am very grateful for your advice, and it all makes my mind a little easier. Thanks.

Thank you for all the tips. They are all being noted.

We look forward to our visit and setting up in November.

Gracias.

Well said, Kimmy.

Our big Sharp combi oven packed up and I had to get one shipped over from Amazon UK. All the other white goods we've bought from Tien 21 in Almoradi, because their prices are reasonable and service excellent. We've stuck with the one brand - Fagor - because the quality is good and their appointed service agents are very good.

Totally agree, I bought all my bedding from Dunelm and T K Max as the quality is better.

Thank you all for your guidance.

We have a Dyson cordless in the UK and as we like it, we thought we would buy one and bring it over. You have confirmed that it is worth doing.

Also, the small electrical items like kettles etc.

I will certainly look at Zara Home......I wasn't aware that they did bedding.  I will also look at Dunelm over here.

I think we shall bring pillows as well. They are a personal and sometimes difficult thing to get right.

Many thanks to all of you, your time in writing is much appreciated.

Most people get bedding and towels from Primark in La zenia boulevard, bring a 4 slice toaster with you as they are very expensive in Spain.

Thank you for this advice.

What is the quality of the La Zenia Primark bedding and towels? They are quite cheap in the uk.

A toaster is now on our shopping list to buy and take over.
