I apologise in advance if this is a really stupid question, but does anyone else have the ‘damp laundry’ problem at this time of year? Or does everyone now have a tumble drier in the winter months? Try as I might, it seems to be damp and doesn’t dry properly - am sick of damp socks/towels/undies and everything else. Anything ironed doesn’t air dry either. I understood driers are a question financially here of the running cost. We dont have central heating, so the house itself is chilly except sitting room with wood burner - but I really can’t have it all draped around!!! Any thoughts welcome!!!

Thank you for this info, Pete; I admit I am seriously considering buying a drier, so you may have convinced me!

Thanks again, Pete. My one in UK vented to outside, but this one would have to go into underbuild, where w/Mach is as we dont have a ‘utility’ as such. Another question, please, if I can try your patience: all the makes with which I am familiar of good quality seem to be highly expensive here - and am wondering about the quality/performance of the brands which I would not have previously considered - ie Candy/Indesit/Beko etc. Presume as you have Candy (Indian I believe?) you’re happy enough with it?

When we first arrived, last November, we had the same problem regarding drying clothes. On a sunny winters day, if you get your washing out early, it should dry before 3pm. Having said that, we did get a tumble dryer, which has been invaluable on those cold cloudy days!

We had one shipped over from the UK for only £50 using silverdale transport, due to the high cost of white goods in Spain.

Thanks, Josie. Everyone’s opinions seem to be similar to your own! It’s the kind of kit one never imagined needing here!

Hi we haven’t bought a dryer yet m, this will be our first year owning a holiday home, so looks like we may need to now.

Re choosing brands this is something I’ve read a lot about. Did you know that Belay the spanish brand is owned by Bosch and Bosch machines are actually made in the same factory? I triple checked this fact, also I found that if you need repairs or replacement parts as belay is spanish Made the parts are plentiful, cheaper than importing them from the German manufacturer and are more quickly available. So I laid aside my brand snobbery as at home we have Smeg or Miele and I’ve bought everything Belay. So here’s hoping that was the right choice.

I personally wouldn’t ship anything from the UK as although it may work out a bit cheaper the warrantee is often invalid and if it ever needs parts as white goods always do they will be often impossible to have fixed if they don’t sell that specific machine in Spain. Again read many many forums. I found tien21 and Conforama to be the cheapest for white goods.

Hope this is of some use

Hello Scott, thank you for your thoughts. Yes, I did know about Balay, but had been put off by several people, so I may think again. I think one of the problems here is the relative cost of white goods in comparison to the equivalent in UK, which does seem outrageously overpriced. However, although it would certainly be cheaper to ship from UK - I checked this morning out of interest! - for all the reasons you state, I would be unlikely to do so. Am about to go out and investigate further - unfortunately, living in the depths of the campo, there is not a Conforama within a sensible distance, but Tien 21 is relatively easily available. Also, have found Bertomeu - common in the small towns around here - is extremely helpful a andususally reasonable for price. Updates to follow..............!!!
