Hi all. We are moving in a couple of months from the UK to the Adsubia region.

We have a cat also and I would like to ask if anyone has been in this situation and how did you co-ordinate the move like taking your possessions and the cat. Did you drive and take the cat, did the cat go by pet air? So many questions but we have so much to take and need to make sure our cat is happy and comfortable too so any tips are very much appreciated. Thanks a lot

Hi, we drove down through France last July with my wife, myself and our daughter plus a chocolate lab and a cat. We bought the cat a travel cot type thing and she fitted in the hatch back area of the car with litter tray, food water and her bed.

The hotels we stayed in accommodated pets and the travel experience was far better than we feared. One was an independent the other part pf the Accor group, a mercure.

Just trying to think given you intend only to stay for a few months, maybe the biggest problem will be if you have a UK pet passport for the cat. Whilst this is okay into Spain you will likely need a Spanish one when you travel back to the UK. The cost when we switched our dog onto a Spanish one was around 30 euro and should be okay for UK to EU travel and vice versa though not sure if you need to be a resident in order to get one.

What we did was to contract a specialist animal transport company. We moved our cats into a cattery near the transporters’ premises a day before the removers came. The transporters collected the cats and delivered them to a cattery in the area to which we were moving, they had a long standing relationship with this facility, so there was no problem. As we did not technically own our property when we moved, we left them in the cattery until we had the keys, a couple of weeks. We then collected them and brought them home.

This for us was the most convenient, as we had to move out of our uk property some days before leaving uk. It meant they were safe, cared for, not stressed by removers, and we didn’t have to worry about them. The actual transport was around 450 sterling, plus of course the two cattery fees. It was worth it to us for the peace of mind and was one less thing to worry about.

We moved in October from Chester to Costa Blanca. We drove via Euro tunnel and with our Cat. We bought a large dog crate and secured this in the back seat. We stayed at pet friendly hotels and made sure we had little tray etc. My cat was very chilled out over the whole trip which for us was 4 nights. One stop over in UK, two in France and one in Spain. We could have made the journey a lot quicker but decided to take our time. When we go back to the UK for a month long visit we are taking our Cat with us but this time we are going by ferry from Spain. We also had to change the pet passport to a Spanish one
