Hello Debbie

It’s not clear which areas you are looking in. We live in San Miguel de Salinas and my son attends Phoenix International School. It’s owned by Rafael and Emma Revach and has up to 100 kids attending. They offer full UK curriculum and with the exception of the two Spanish language teachers all the staff are British. There’s a wonderful community spirit among the kids - they look out for each other and there’s no bullying!! Look them up on Facebook at Phoenix international School

You probably won’t want to travel this far

I don’t know how much you know about “International Schools” here in Spain, there are lots of establishments that are just language classes but claim to be schools, make sure where ever you choose is OFSTED inspected and registered at the British Embassy in Madrid. Good luck with your searches!!

Hello

There seems to be very few international schools in this region & nothing very close to where you are looking. The one that came up when I googled is   .....

https://ellimonarinternational.com/villamartin/virtual-appointment/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMItr2WxqqV7AIVoRkGAB1VBw6gEAAYASAAEgKhZfD_BwE

.. as you will see it's a long way to travel & with fees for 7yr olds between 6-700€ a month, very expensive

 Sorry, couldnt find anything else

Hi, if your child is 9 or under 9 years old, I will strong advise you to send the child to the local Spanish school. Children Pick up the the language very, very quickly and the school supports them with additional daily Spanish lesson.  My son went to the local Spanish school at Nicolas de Bussi, in Orihuela, age 8 in year 4, 2018 he has done exceptionally well, he now speaks fluent Spanish and has Passed all his exams. The school is good in maths and sciences. Watching Spanish cartoons and other Spanish children’s Programs help children Pick up the language quickly. You have to help with additional Spanish grammar lessons at home. The tutors charge about €15 a week. You will also help with English lessons using the current grade English text book use in UK. My son use to complain that the English lessons they do is too easy and is for lower grade or year. That is understandable because it is not a English school. You also have to bear in mind, if the child does not Pass his or her exams at the end of year, he or she will not Proceed to the next year.  Please don’t let this bother you, Put in the support for the child and watch your child Progress. Don’t send your child to any back street so call Private school. Your child’s education is very important and I can guarantee you Spanish schools are good.

Don’t worry, Initially I was always questioning myself, asking if I have made the right decision. My son did not speak a word of Spanish. My wife was initially terrified. What ever year he is going to be in, he will be in a class with 3 or 4 other kids from other countries example Belgium, Netherlands or Sweden.  That move you intend to make, there are other people from some where else in Europe making the same trip. The group attend the same extra Spanish lessons in school. So they Progress at the same Pace. My son made friends quickly and settled in very quickly.  Your child will be fine, let him enjoy the experience and take the credit for his learning.

Hi Debbie.

You say you are looking at a certain area where there are no Bilingual or International Schools. How about changing your search area to somewhere with good schools?

There are lots around, private with reasonable costs or state schools. Whatever you choose, please plan on some basic Spanish tuition for your child before they start school. Some children are quite happy to be thrown into the deep end, others may suffer, be bullied and lose confidence which a little basic knowledge would help with. Trust me, I’m a language teacher and I see how children react to being the only one in a school who speaks English!

Good luck.
