Clearly the process has changed since Jim wrote his guide for this in 2018.
When trying to register for a letter of invitation the two pieces of information demanded are NIE and 'support number which it says can be the number from a residencia card but the system won't accept that, anybody successfully applied recently ?

Is the number on your residency 7 numbers?
If so, have you prefixed that with C0 to create your support number?
I did hear one report from a friend last year whose support number, although entered correctly, didn't work. I tested it myself and it didn't work.

I want to know if this is the second occasion when a support number, correctly entered, isn't recognised.

Yes my support No. is 7 digits but after adding C0 I get to entering my DoB but after that it comes back with my name in the top corner but the message:
Acceso restringido para este DNI-NIE
Restricted access for this DNI-NIE
and nowhere else to go from there.
OK on your PM BTW, I'll go the other route.

That's strange, and I don't know what to suggest.
Just done a bit of searching, and there's a YouTube video that shows this error message at the 2.30 minute mark:

Unfortunately it seems to just tell you to do an online chat to Agencia Tributaria, without telling you what the message means.
