My friend has just arrived from the uk and cannot get her virgin mobile to work.Any advice please.

Could be that data roaming needs turned on.

Could well be the problem but AFAIK you can only turn on roaming while in your home country.

If you are planning on staying in Spain indefinitely, you will be much better having a Spanish sim, if you stay with a British sim you will find that very few Spanish people including tradesmen will ring an English mobile number.
