Thanks Cheryl.  For all of us who have relied on our right to return to our country of habitual residence throughout the Covid pandemic, this is a significant change in rules and will surely impact some UK citizens, who went to the UK for the festive season, trying to return to their permane...

...nt homes in Spain.  The fact that the French government hasn't officially announced this yet, is especially poor.

"From now on, border guards should no longer consider as a compelling reason the fact, for a British national beneficiary of the [Brexit] withdrawal agreement residing in a Member State other than France, to transit through France to regain his domicile,” it said.

"Although the French government hasn't made an official announcement about the rule change, the document and Eurotunnel statement says the ban does not apply to British people living in France, or people from the U.K. that also hold an EU passport through dual nationality, BUT IT DOES APPLY TO BRITISH CITIZENS LIVING OUTSIDE FRANCE IN THE EU."

So anyone who has return journeys to Spain via EuroTunnel will have to make alternative arrangements, but presumably the same rules apply to Brittany Ferries too?  Let's hope the French authorities make an official announcement sooner rather than later.

Kind regards,

Kim

Rules have changed again travel through francs now allowed

Yes, that's what my earlier post says - see the previous page in this thread for details.

You are now only allowed through PROVIDED you were in uk oob 28th December.   I have read that the issue is being considered by lawyers who claim France has acted illegally against the Schengen Code so could all change again

Only for vaccinated travellers, restrictions still apply to the unvaccinated.  Vaccinated travellers will no longer need a compelling reason to enter France, and will not have to self-isolate when they arrive, but a negative Covid test, taken 24 hours before leaving the UK, will still be required for all those arriving into France.

Un-vaccinated people should not be travelling around the world at this point in time anyway.

Yes seen the same on the news Kimmy. Would that be an antigen or PCR test. What I saw didn't say which test, just negative result.

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france/entry-requirements

Negative PCR or Antigen test needed 24 hours before entering France, for the fully vaccinated.

Given the very high level of covid infections in France at the moment, roughly 3 times the UK, might be safer to either travel straight through France without an overnight stop or possibly consider delaying travel altogether for a few weeks.
