This is an email I received from Parcel2Go about sending parcels from the UK;

Since 1st January, shipping items into Europe has become a little more tricky and with gift sending at its peak right now, read on for our quick guide to ensure your Christmas gifts arrive in time for the big day ......

1. Is the Cost of Your Gift over the Value of £39  (Including the Cost of Shipping)?

No - Choose a courier of your choice as you will not need to pay any taxes or duties charges.

Yes - We advise to select DPD as your courier and then, in the booking process,  choose 'yes I'll pay the taxes and duties.' These will then simply be added to your parcel shipping costs to pay at checkout. If you choose an alternative courier and therefore don't pay any applicable taxes or duties charges at the time of booking, your recipient is highly likely to be asked to pay these before their parcel is delivered.

2. Regardless of Parcel Value, Always Select Export Reason as 'Gift'

Within the booking process simply select 'gift' from the drop down menu.

3. Provide a Detailed Description of Every Gift Item in Your Parcel

Simply stating 'Christmas gifts' is highly likely to cause delays at customs for your parcel. Each item in the parcel needs to be identified individually, with its own description and materials of each item:

  • Bad example: 'Christmas present'
  • Good example: 'soft plush child’s doll, 100% polyester'
  • Bad example: 'present train'
  • Good example: 'child's wooden train set'

4. Apply a Tariff Code

Each item needs a tariff code, which allows customs to quickly identify what the parcel contents are. Don't worry, when you tell us about each item, we will select the correct tariff code for you.

Simply follow these tips and your parcel should have no delays.

If you require any more information, check out our International Hub for all you need to know.

Kind Regards
The Parcel2Go Team

Easier by far to just not send non essential xmas packages, as the adage goes 'it's the thought which counts' !
