I was thinking the same when watching the news this morning. Talk about pulling up the drawbridge! Nose off to spite face also comes to mind.
The government has said "business needs to wean itself off cheap labour", which I accept is correct. But, to do that the UK education and benefits system needs an overhaul. Despite this though, "business" has nine months to recruit and train replacements. Impossible. Five years? Maybe, nine months? Impossible.
I can't believe that those in power don't understand the implications of this, so you have to assume it's nothing more than setting out an extreme position in readiness for negotiations.
If it goes ahead; food shortages, massive unemployment (as companies close their doors unable to continue without staff), a huge drop in tax revenues, a massive rise in the cost of living and so on awaits those stuck behind in Brexit Britain.
And of course, if it does go ahead, as you say, expect the rest of the EU to reciprocate, which must be a huge worry for even those who have residency.
Nuts.
If it does go ahead, it's clear that the power and control those shorting the pound have over No.10 far exceeds even the worst fears.
