What we residents do have to worry about is the effect of the exchange rate on our income. Since the referendum result, our income has dropped about 20-25%. If there's an economic collapse in the UK post Brexit, then our income will drop even further. If that happens, I'll have to send Margaret d...

Personally, I think there's a distinct lack of men exploiting their Unique Selling Point on those roundabouts...... 😉😄

Please !!! The thought of RayD sitting under a parasol at a roundabout would be enough to cause multiple crashes.

On March 1st this year a royal decree was written into Spanish law.  Basically it said that nothing will change for ex pat brits now living in Spain, .WHO ALREADY HAVE SPANISH RESIDENCY. They followed this up by saying that they would expect the British Govt to reciprocate regarding Spanish and other eu citizens in the uk.

Looking at it rationally, what would Spain look like without the ex pats??   How much tax and other income would be lost.??

The Spanish economy would suffer a huge backward step.

Lots of Brits living in Spain are there living on their wits. These are living there with small disposable income - just enough for take aways and ''2 pint'' cartons of wine. You all know the ones I mean, you know where their few euros are coming from. What percentage of UK folks have Spanish residency - let me guess. What do you mean Pacoboy when you say legal ? Are you suggesting that some of the expats are on the run from summat ? From the first second after 1st November the blonde one will have stitched up 90% of all Brits living in Spain or in any other EU country. Worst of all he will have plunged the UK, a vibrant land, into the dark ages. On the other hand will he still be PM on 1st November ?

Hello Joelbunger209. Can you tell me what percentage of Brits are paying tax in Spain. Also what it is costing the Spanish on medical care for the expats. In Oliva the Brits spend their few euros in Brit bars, just like everywhere else in Spain. How many ''man with van'' or taxi service to the airport etc. etc. types are paying tax ? Just going to stroll down town now for a delightful €8 del dia with wine, then on to the beach. Oh how I love Spain !

You would need to maintain an address in the uk and evidence of ongoing active links to it if you are intending to be away from the UK then return at an age when care and medical costs mount. Some people find that they are no longer covered for some services if absent and not contributing.
