Something many will probably not have given much thought to is the potential, if not likely, limitation which will be placed on the value of goods brought back to Spain after a visit to UK without having to pay import tax.

Although the document in the link below link refers to France I think it can be taken as a reasonable indication of what might apply to Spain. Of course if crossing to one of the channel ports and landing in France to drive all the way as the point of entry to the EU the document will apply directly.

http://douane.gouv.fr/Portals/0/fichiers/information/publication-douane/langues-etrangeres/leaflet-trouble-free-travel-french-customs-advices-en.pdf

Note that this applies to ALL items of value which you might be carrying where you may be asked to prove when and where you bought them or be charged import duty, the reverse might apply when entering UK.

There are implications in other fields too such as importing a car for instance where VAT could be demanded even though it's already been paid in UK.

There is no reason either why the limits on the import of alcohol and tobacco to UK for personal consumption would not default to the same as any from other country in the world which will mean the demise of the popular UK 'booze cruise'.

None of this of course will be of any concern whatsoever to leave voters who I'm sure will have carefully and thouroughly weighed up  each and every consequence before placing their mark in the box!

A bit of wild speculation here but I wonder if UK did fall into a post Brexit recession could the government impose currency controls, remember the 70's 50 quid limit !!!

Morning, I've bought 2 new watches in the past 3 months from USA, a Certina and an Alpina. I prepaid import duty via the retailer.

Both of the watches even with tax and a pretty dire exchange rate were significantly cheaper than buying in the EU.

I suppose my point is that; trade is facilitated, there is movement of goods across trading blocks and the costs should not be assumed to be greater in every case.

We don't have long to wait now things will shakedown and we'll know where we all stand. We are where we are.

We have been weighing up the cost of transporting household items if we move to Spain and TBH we are starting to think we'd buy much of it when we arrive given the cost of moving items via hauliers.

Aaah the good old days of carnets , triptics , "T" forms , manifests , certs of origin,  certified invoices  are all coming back …  the memories .!!

Will kill off all the personal shopper business's , argos and other runs , all new goods in personal effects will have to be declared and vat and duty paid on entry to the EU and the UK  , so you will need import agents with a buoyant  cash account to enable you to transit with no hold ups .

The French and Spanish will have a field day  with "turnouts" on the borders .
