Hi Anne

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.  I will definitely try  there and if not, possibly get one in La Marina.

Many thanks

Good morning Carolyn,

Don’t be shocked by my suggestion!  We were robbed one night, the robber put his hands onto the outside of the patio door and pushed upwards, releasing the lock.  The door was slid open and using a handle with a hook, reached in and removed my daughter’s handbag.   The door was still open in the morning with our gates closed and locked.

We were advised to drill a hole at the top in the middle where both doors meet and another at the bottom. My husband bought two large hefty screws which we used for years until we replaced the doors.  Nobody got in again.

Probably not what you’d like but cheaper and more thief proof.

Good afternoon "Grannyrose"

I am sorry to hear of the issue you had with your doors and thank you for the warning, we will certainly bear this in mind.

Thanks again

Carolyn

We had a break-in similar to that years ago. It is easy to put a shovel under any sliding door and lift it off the runners.

What we did was put blocks at the very top of the doors to prevent this and also you could buy a dedicated long bolt that you fitted mid way up the door that passed through both doors, but not to the outside.  You cut to length .  On the inside is a metal plate that is threaded for the bolt that you fix in place with self tappers.

You only need a few basic tools to fit them.  Sorry, but I can't remember where we got them but I suspect a good ferreteria will have them.  We lived in Algorfa at the time so the one in Montisinos would be a fair bet.
