Prices for bottled gas were discussed a while back and we just got a delivery of 7 bottles from Cepsa at €15.71 per bottle, ordered yesterday, delivered to the door today. Apparently Repsol prices are regulated by the government so if anyone has had any propane from Repsol it would be interesting to see how closely Cepsa meet the price.

Yesterday I paid €15.46 when I collected a butane gas bottle from the Repsol depot. Its the cheapest I've paid for a long time.

Propane is usually cheaper then butane I think but considering we had 7 bottles delivered to our door right out in the Campo saving us 4 trips into town (6km) and back (another 6 km) I was very pleased. Hopefully that will keep us with heat and hot water for the rest of the winter.
Happy New Year.

I don't know if it's changed since I last did a check but, whilst an 11 kg propane bottle is cheaper than a 12.5 kg butane bottle, the price per kilo is the same.

Cheaper because it is smaller, 11kg as opposed to 12.5kg.

Garages used to charge 1 or 2 euro as a handling fee on top of the recommended price but I now notice (around us) they are now adding 3 euro for the handling fee. A Cepsa butane bottle from the chap who delivers as 15.46 but both garages around us, one Cepsa and one independent, are charging 18.46. Still, considering how relatively cheap compared to elsewhere they seem good value. My cousin who uses them in UK for his caravan pays £45 for a 13kg refill.

I paid €22.25 for a Cepsa 12.5 butano @ Quesada gas which is a petrol filling station behind Consum at Lo Marabu and the following day purchased a 12.5 repsol butano from a ferriterias in Rojales at a cost of €19. It's a real rip off when people can purchase it in La Marina for €17.🔥🔥😳💸💵😱

Propane v Butane is not about size or weight but calorific values.

This is old and in £ but the principal still applies.

"Calorific value of butane = 49.47 MJ/kg

In one 7kg bottle = 346.29 MJ

Cost of 7kg on Calor website on 12th March 2010 = £19.45

Cost per MJ = £0.05616

Calorific value of propane = 50.37 MJ/kg

In one 6kg bottle = 302.22 MJ

Cost of 6kg on Calor website on 12th March 2010 = £16.99

Cost per MJ = £0.05621

The difference being £0.00005."

The only tangible benefit of Butane is if the bottles are stored outside otherwise save money and use Propane.

All our propane bottles are stored outside, a couple for the oven and a bank of 10 for the combi boiler. I understood that propane is better at lower temperatures.....under 5 degrees? Not sure, maybe someone can confirm or deny? All I can say is that our propane never cuts out.

Propane is supposed to burn at a higher temperature.

I think that should be lower temperatures. Under freezing but that doesn't really bother me. I suppose if you lived on top of a mountain then it might be something to consider.
