I am in the process of selling my apartment in Spain.Have previously lived in Scotland many years ago but thinking to relocate to the Scottish Borders,an area I have no knowledge of.I did live in Edinburgh at one time but now a bit too expensive for me.I am sure there must be some Scots on this forum,so can you help please?

Think its a good move, but I would consider a house on the English side as it is looking like a Nats Independence victory when they get Indy 2 and in my opinion it would be a disaster for Scotland, I am Scottish by the way.

I worked in Kelso on a 6 week contract finished end of November 2018 ,seemed a nice like little town ,not bad access to and from Edinburgh ,and you have racecourse if that's your thing ,depends on what you're looking ,there is always the renting in various border towns to see what suits your needs

To Richard who kindly answered.I am English too but was married to a Scot & my daughter was born there.I have a grandchild living in the Highlands  which is why I am finally returning to UK.But am very independent & will be moving to a different area yet in same country.I believe ,myself, that Scotland will do better returning to the EU fold. And those who go on about the idea they will never survive on their own should perhaps look at others who have left English control. The Republic of Ireland,Malta & Gibraltar as examples.

I live near Edinburgh and know the Borders well. If you think Edinburgh is pricy, then it can be even more so in the Borders. However, you can still buy decent priced properties in places like Galashiels and Hawick. Peebles can be expensive. A friend of mine recently moved to West Linton, and it's really nice there with a good village atmosphere, and only around 15 ,lies from Edinburgh. If there's anything you need to know or need help with, please get in touch.

I would definitely be buying on the Scottish side in the hope that they do gain independence and get back in the EU . My husband’s dad is a Scot and we would definitely apply for Scottish citizenship to regain our freedom of movement. Our children would do the same as they are heartbroken they will no longer have the right to to live , work and study in Europe after 31 December . But if that isn’t a concern the borders in Northumberland are stunningly beautiful as those are over the border too. 🥂

Sheila I totally agree with you.I will not be buying a property on the English side because despite being English born,I am alarmed at the mad decision made by my fellow countrymen. My birth family are all typical Anglo Saxon from the Saxon Kingdom of Wessex where they have always lived. And,I can believe, all think that life will go on  in their comfortable world just as before. It won´t for our children & grandchildren after Brexit. At the time of the original referendum in the 1970´s when we elected to join the EU,can anyone remember the state of the UK?At that time we lived in that lovely little place Rothley, near Leicester where that little girl´s family,Maddie now live.We donated food to the families who were without, our Chancellor of the Exchequer had to go for a loan because Britain was Broke. We have short memories obviously. My family came here in the mid 1980´s to run a business which was before Spain entered the EU.Poverty was even worse than what I had seen in UK.So they were keen to join a big group of European countries & since that time I can see what a tremendous advantage they have gained in doing so.Until retirement I had ,fortunately, run successful businesses both in UK & here. Therefore I hope I am still sensible enough to see the bigger picture.Don´t listen to those who go on about how people came & worked in Europe before & will do so again.Yes indeed as we did.But it was very hard even buying a licensed business as a cash buyer. Now there will be the fact that the British voted to leave the "Club".Do you really believe that employers in the EU will welcome our young job seekers with open arms,& don´t forget how poorly we are equipped with foreign language skills.

Well said indeed . I hope you find somewhere amazing in the Borders . Find time to visit glorious  north Northumberland , where we used to live and I hope you still manage to find some sunshine in Spain. You sound as if you have led an interesting life working in Spain for such a long time. Enjoy your future in Scotland . Good luck for the future . Kind regards . Sheila ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️
