Hi

I am Max. I have just purchased a delightful Cortijo on the outskirts of Alcoi & will be moving in during October.

I would be very interested in any meeting or social events to both introduce myself, make new friends & network with respect to useful handymen etc.

Regards

Max

It may help with some of the queries that you will have if you have a look Jim’s Guides on this site.   Another couple of helpful sites are Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for general queries and N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   The latter site is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and includes an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.

Hi. We live in Ontinyent but have been to Alcoy a number of times and haven’t really come across much of an ex pat community, others may prove me wrong of course. However in nearby Cocentaina and Muro de Alcoy there are a lot of ex pats, all you need to do is go for a coffee and you will hear them. A little further afield there is Albaida and Ontinyent. There is an English rastro in Ontinyent where many expats gather. It’s a good place to meet Brits if that’s what you want. My experience is that the larger the town ie Alcoy and Ontinyent, the harder it is to find where the Brits hang out as many Spanish towns and cities are so spread out it’s difficult to know where to meet people. We have lived in Ontinyent for three and a half years and are still finding bars and restaurants we didn’t know existed!

Hi Guy

Many thanks for the information.

I have only (thus far) travelled in my motorhome in this area but have heard much the same from the English estate agents.

I will not be in proper until 18th October onwards & will start looking for contacts.

I am looking for a decent stove fitter to install a new wood burner in the lounge but think I have found a company in Alcoi that can do it. If all fails I will bring a fitter out from UK on a promise of a holiday in the mountains 🤣

Cheers

Max 😎

After living here for 14 years, and being of advanced years, I have usually found that employing Spanish trades people can be more helpful (and usually cheaper) than employing Brits - they also know more about the 'ins and outs' of the country's laws on building work as you have to have a licence for just about anything that you do.   If you try to speak Spanish most indigenous people will 'bend over backwards' to try to help you.   However, in my experience, they very often will then attempt to answer in English as they also wish to practice their language skills.

Hello Max

I live in a small inland  village, my main shopping area being Alcoy and Cocentaina. I love to dance and listen to live music. So far I have needed to travel to the coast for this. I see you worked at sea. My ex-partner was a chief engineer I enjoyed many months accompanying him onboard a cruise ship. I hope you enjoy living in the campo.

Regards

Carol

Hello Carol

Many apologies for not responding sooner. I am only just getting used to this site and that's after 10 months 😎

I am now fully settled in Alcoy. As you are local you will be able to estimate my location if I tell you that I am on the mountain immediately to the east of Alcoi, near San Rafael.

I recently retired from the sea, but my son has just achieved his Chiefs ticket, at a very young age. Both my ex and I are very proud of him 😎

I also now have a litter of kittens as my favourite wild 🐈 (Cindy) gave birth.

I sincerely hope that you are well and have not been too affected by CV-19.

If you wish to chat, my number is 07856555929

Respectfully

Max
