Cock roaches
Im sure you have been asked this numerous times but do you get many cock roaches coming into your home when your away from the main touristy area. They really do freak me out.. 😏
I live in the Campo and I've not seen one yet.
Thats very helpful.. Thank you so much.. Im guessing there is ways of catching or baiting them out?

Similar to Ray, I've lived in the huerta for fourteen years, and probably only see one a year.
You can get sprays to treat surfaces that kill the cockroaches if they walk on them, and you can also get traps. Readily available in supermarkets and ferreterias etc.
Thanks Ray, thats great. Its always been the thing that has held me back. Horrible little things.. 😩

Cockroaches are attracted to areas within properties where they can feed themselves and thus survive happily. Foodstuffs not drained sufficiently through pipework, aggregation of old food droppings under doors, corners of cupboards, that kind of thing. If you remove the source of food you generally won't get cockroaches. Bleach out old pipework regularly, it won't kill them but will send them in the opposite direction!
However, I'm no wildlife expert but there is a bug here that at first glance might look like a cockroach but is just a random bug. They travel "up" which cockroaches generally don't. They can be deterred with a simple spray like Oro.
So, the cleaner you keep floor surfaces and dark corners, behind fridges etc, and general regular cleaning, the less likely you will have cockroaches.

Lol I'm no David Attenborough but your average cockroach is not airborne. I don't think so anyway, could be wrong.
However the other ones I mentioned can fly. Not like flies (fly) but more a flashing around in survival mode if disturbed. One came out of a used towel when I was servicing my rental and it gave me a hell of a fright if I'm honest, given I wasn't expecting it. I followed it around and doused it with Oro until it was dazed then whacked it.
When you first live in Spain these things can be a little frightening, especially for those who are timid with bugs around them. You do get used to it to some extent and occasionally a new bug chase can be an interesting diversion!
Try not to be frightened, just keep the Oro handy. Others hopefully might have tips that could help.

Common Flying Cockroach SpeciesCockroaches such as Asian, brown, smokybrown and wood roaches are very capable fliers, but others, such as American cockroaches are a species that commonly uses its wings to glide.

They can ! I tried to kill a big bludger once & he got his own back chasing me along the hall!
Roaches are pretty common place out here in Aus. But there are good “barrier” sprays to put around doors & windows to keep them minimal. We also use fly screens on our windows to keep all those creepy crawly things out!
We probably get maybe 4 per year in the house. Still detest them but you learn to deal with it.
