Do you have Sabadell's "Key Account" for Non-residents?  If so, you should be paying a quarterly charge of Eu 30 and every 2 years, each non-resident account holder is charged around Eu 35 for a certificate which banks have to provide by decree of the Spanish Government.  The only other charge we incurred was Eu 100 for a bank draft when we bought our property, but we were never charged for paying money in or account transactions.  Of course, they may have changed their terms since we opened our account 2 years ago, but it would be worth you double checking the paperwork you were given when you opened the account and challenge anything that doesn't look right.  I did this the first time we were charged for the Non-resident certificate, because they hadn't told us about it, and they refunded half as a gesture of goodwill.

Since becoming Resident, we have switched to Sabadell's "Expansion Account" which incurs no charges, so long as we pay a minimum of Eu 700 into the account each month.

Unlike the UK, banking in Spain, especially for Non-residents, is not free.  You may find a slightly cheaper option, but it's worth bearing in mind the extent of Sabadell's branch network and online offering.

And for the avoidance of doubt, I don't work for Sabadell and only tolerate their lousy customer service because I haven't found a better alternative in Spain and their online banking means I've been able to reduce the time wasted in branch :o)  Deutsche Bank was another I considered, which matched Sabadell for services and costs, but they don't have the same availability of branches.

Good luck!

Kind regards,

Kim
