Hello

To be honest Pacoboy, I would prefer that they had to show either negative test result or proof of vaccine --- wherever they are coming from.

Hope all our good work in the Valencian Communidad & the restrictions/curfews/rules we have obeyed for so long,  are not in vain.

Cheers

Yes, I see it as reckless. All of us here have followed the rules and helped keep the Valencian region at the bottom of the league tables for Covid infection rates. This situation has been helped by the fact that, as a tourist region also with many second home owners, mass movement of people during the pandemic hasn't really happened since the short lived relaxing of rules last year.

Now it seems that despite relatively low levels of vaccination within the local population folks can start to fly in without the need for covid tests.

At 51 I have not yet been invited for my first jab but expect to within a fortnight and then there will be two further weeks until I build up some degree of resistance to Covid. My wife at 55 is going for her first jab on Thursday.

I get that Spain really needs the tourist income but hope that the UK keeps them on the Amber list for at least another month, maybe two until we see a much higher percentage of vaccinations here. This might result in fewer visitors from the UK but given much of Europe, and indeed Spain itself still have high rates of infection I think it's likely to get messy.

Hi Pacoboy,

I was initially alarmed when Spain opened up to travel from the UK without PCR testing, but then the UK confirmed that existing vaccinations protect against the Indian variant and that it isn't as transmissible as first thought.  However, last Friday the UK confirmed identification of the "Yorkshire" variant, which Dr Jenny Harris, chief executive of the UK Health Security Agency, said "could be more transmissible".  Currently, the Yorkshire variant isn't classified as a "Vaccine of Concern", but BoJo said the Indian variant wasn't designated as a VoC either, when he used that as an excuse to keep the flight corridor open between India and the UK.

Kind regards,

Kim

Any variants are extremely harmful to those not vaccinated. Much of the elderly population here in Spain has been done, with one or two doses but there are many of us 40's and 50's who are waiting still. For this reason it does seem like Spain has thrown caution to the wind on this one. The Spanish government should have waited for another month or so until % vaccinated increased to acceptable/ safer levels.

The UK seems far more cautious despite having vaccinated so many more of their people. This should set alarm bells ringing here.

Some form of negative covid test before coming into Spain seems safer or evidence of full vaccination, but alas no.

Call me a cynic but I think one reason the UK has so many countries on Amber is that the Government is desperate for people to spend their savings in the UK.

I believe one of the Green countries has a population of 400 and no airport! Apart from Portugal most of them are places where very few people would go anyway....

If the UK gov was so worried why didn't they shut flight arrivals down from India the moment the variant was discovered?

Steve

The short answer is Yes. After all the talk of vaccine passports and testing to throw open the borders to a multitude of countries, including the UK, without requiring either is surprising.

Someone asked in Boris and Hancock were fuming that Spain opened it's doors, well the question now is "are Merkel and Macron fuming that Spain has opened it doors to unrestricted access" Germany has red listed the UK, France is considering it.

Once in one Schengen country your in them all..........................

Imagine the flak the UK would be getting from some on this forum of they did the same!

Aitch.

Yes, definitely an irresponsible approach IMO. Lancelot has summed it up pretty well, wait to a high percentage of the countries population are vaccinated before throwing the borders open. Is Spain really so desperate for tourist income? Really ? This may come back to bite them on the butt, I certainly hope not but all pointers towards infection spikes point to high rates of infection where crowds & gatherings of people happen.

Reckless?…. Yes, definitely.

Irresponsibe? .... for sure.
