Hi all, my husband and I are looking at relocating to Spain permanently from France. We came to France pre Brexit in 2019.
Can anyone please tell me if my residency here will count towards residency in Spain. I've read that it will? Also, we know we need to apply for a non-lucrative visa but will the 90day rule apply as we are already living in the EU. Any help would be appreciated. I'm researching everything before we make the leap! Is Algorfa a nice place to live with amenities. Thanks.

My understanding is that you will have to apply for your NLV in the UK if you are a British Citizen in the same way as any other Brit.Your French residency allows you to stay in EU/Schengen countries for 90 days,ie you can spend 90 days in France then 90 days in Spain followed by say 90 days in Portugal.This is different to regular Brits with only UK residence that can only stay in any EU/Schengen country for 90 days in a rolling 180.My first call would be to the Spanish Embassy in London for definitive answers.

Thanks for the info. I did message these people but I didn't get anywhere with them so information is very helpful. I'm assuming that my residency in France doesn't make a difference when going to Spain as I'm still a UK citizen. Thanks Steve.

Hi Chris,
Without knowing whether there's any urgency behind your move to Spain, you may want to consider remaining in France until you've lived there for 5 years and then apply for your permanent residency, which will entitle you to move to Spain (or any other EU country) under the usual rules for citizens of EU countries, rather than having to apply for a visa from the UK; the latter being much more complex and expensive.

The first sentence in Kimmys link says it all, it only applies if you already have permanent residence in France which, as of yet, you do not.
To move now you would need to apply for an NLV via the Spanish consulate in the country in which you are currently resident, i.e. France.
Thankyou. I did contact the Spanish embassy in Bordeaux but got no joy.
Just thought I'd update all those people who responded to my plight. I contacted the Spanish embassy in London who referred me to the Spanish consulate in France. I contacted Bordeaux consulate which is my closest and they tell me they only deal with Spanish citizens! I'm pulling my hair out. I am coming to Spain early March and visiting Algorfa so maybe find out more info from the estate agents! X
