Thank you for the reply and information.

Regarding historic vehicles (over 30 years old) there are various exemptions and insurance benefits. I brought a 3 year old Italian car when I first came to Spain 12 years ago and paid a whopping 3800 Euros. A right hooker in Spain is worth very little so unless you have a LHD UK car I think it would be better to buy a Spanish registered car here. (Some RHD cars like the Mini can be converted in a weekend to LHD by super competent mechanics and in the case of Cabrios there might be a bit of money to be made seeing that Spanish second hand cars are significantly more expensive than their UK counterparts.

Weigh up the pros and cons also re insurance suspension if vehicle is off the road etc.

BTW, Spanish road fund tax equivalent is much cheaper too.

Thanks Jim.....I realised I wouldn't be able to drive it in the UK once it was registered in Spain but wasn't sure if I could register it as I'm not resident in Spain. Have to have a re think.

Plus Adele, you would have to get your lights changed over on the ITV (mot). The adjustable lights are not legal on a ITV.

Not true!

If your headlights can be adjusted through the on board computer or by levers within the headlights to create a "flat line" beam pattern, this IS accepted for the import ITV and future periodic ITV inspections.

Hi Leigh - nice to see you on the forum. Hopefully you'll pick up relevant posts yourself and save several of us from having to refer people to yourself and Graham.

Hi Adele, I registered a UK car in Spain last year, using Spanish Number Plates as recommended to me and recommended by many people on this site. Leigh and Graham did all the work required and it was a straightforward process. Good service. I wanted a car here that I could drive legally and so not to get a hire car when we come over. I leave it at Alicante airport, using Plane Parking, another good service. I also moved to a Spanish insurer, Abbeygate. Most of the above done on-line with only the visit to ITV for testing and getting the lights adapted beforehand (also taken care of by SNP as part of their service)

I will probably sell the car in Spain when it suits us. I have not looked at how I could take the car back to the UK because that was not in our plans but I think it would be possible to do that if you wish.

True.

The itv centre in Torrevieja would not accept self adjusting lights. I then paid for the head lights to come from the UK to my Spanish address.
