Hello. I'm just moving into my home in La Finca. The electricity has been fine for a couple of days - but turned the oven on for the first time to cook. I heard the fuse box click, and the electricity in the house went off. I can't get it to switch back on from the fuse box. Can anyone recommend a local electrician? Or, are you familiar w/ this problem? Thanks in advance.

You can only draw so much power at any one time depending on which tariff you're on.

Either you've got a fault or you exceeded the maximum.

When you try to reset, does it not allow it or are the switches in the on position but no power?

Hi Deborah, sorry to hear you are having trouble with your Electrics.

You may have it sorted by now, but if not, it does appear from what you describe, that the fault could lie with your Cooker circuit.

You would need to first confirm it is not a problem caused by overloading your Electrical supply. This would happen if you had too many Electrical Appliances switched on and working at the same time as each other, which would could cause the Supply to trip out, dependant upon your maximum Contracted Capacity with your Electricity Supplier.

This would be 'Resettable',  after firstly  turning off some Appliances, then  reset either at the main trip switch at ,or adjacent to,your fusebox, or more likely, nowadays, with smart meters it could be at your Electricity meter, via a reset button.

If this is not the case it could be you have an Earth leakage fault on the Oven itself. If this is the case, and to find out if it is ,you will need to turn off the Electricity supply to your oven, either via its local wall switch, or via its dedicated circuit breaker switch at the fusebox.

After you have done that you should then be able to restore the power to the rest of your Electrics by resetting the 'Rcd' trip switch at your fusebox.

It's not possible to positively identify the problem by the little detail you have supplied but hopefully the above may provide a couple of things for you to try.

The section of this Forum with the title "Jims' Guides, if searched,' give more advice.

If no joy, then ,yes, an Electrician will be required to attend.

I wish I took a picture of the fuse box to show you, as I am not at the house right now.

All the switches in the fuse box were ON - but no power.

I may have been overloading as I did have several things on... - but, how do I find out my capacity?

I did try to unplug most things, and retried the main fuse switch, but nothing happened.

But, I don't know the house. I was renting it out. I don't know if the oven has a problem. The house has been closed up for about 2x months because of the lockdown...

Thank you for your help. I will try what you suggest first thing in the morning. I was worried about all the frozen food going off so returned to my rental flat to put everything in the freezer there.

Switches are in the ON position, but no power...

I probably exceeded, but I need to find out what my limit is...
