Hi. My wife and I and our kids are moving over shortly. We will both be employed full time by Spanish companies and we will pay social security, taxes etc in Spain so I know we are entitled to healthcare. My employer offers an amount each month for private healthcare so I’m thinking of taking out a private policy for us. As I understand it, agents don’t act as brokers in Spain, they are aligned to one insurance company, is that right? Can anyone recommend a PHI insurance company or agent that can help us?

HI, If you are employed by a Spanish company you are entitled to be in the Spanish Public Health System.

I wonder why they are offering to pay for a private health insurance. Could it be that you will be self employed, but only working for one company. This has been a system used both here and in the UK. Guess who is the loser? The employee.

If it were me I would take this up with the employer before contracting any private insurance.

It’s a benefit they offer, PHI. So why wouldn’t I avail of it if they are paying for it each month?

....but lots of people in the Spanish Health system use private insurance to top up and access speedier treatment. It could be the employer is offering private for this reason?

We're with ASSSA, (for a complete policy, but I know they offer top up ones too). They have English speaking reps, office staff and doctors, which other Spanish agencies may or may not have. They're ok and seem to do what they say on the tin. But- touch wood- we've not had any crises, and I haven't a clue about services for children.

Can you get any recommendations from your new colleagues?

Are there any other recommenations for private health insurance companies, I am not a fan of ADESLAS having read the reviews on trustpilot. Over 500 votes and 98% of them gave them 1 out of 5, that's shocking.

I have seen that page and not only do they say negative comments about Adeslas, but they also say the same about other companies, we are working so that more and more doctors and staff speak English so that they can give the best care to our clients.
