I received the following message from a so far reliable currency broker:

''Although the UK has now left the EU, we are still a member of the Single European Payments Area (SEPA). This should mean that European banks continue to process international transfers to and from the UK, as before, without any additional charges.

However, it appears that some banks, particularly in Spain, are imposing additional charges on all payments to or from the UK, including when receiving funds on your behalf from us''

My Spanish bank confirmed that for transfers from the UK that there is a minimum charge of the higher of 18 euros or 0.35% of the sum received in my Spanish bank account from the UK, as a result of Brexit from 1/1/2021.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I am with Sabadell and have the expansion account. I transferred €700 last week through Transferwise and did not get any charges.

Sabadell we found jas lots of hidden charges. We transfer from UK to La Caixa absolutely free of charge last time was roughly 400pounds no problems at all.

I have sent this email to Starling and await response.

I have a Starling Euro account and transfer €700 every month. This month I got charged by Sabadell in Spain for receiving this. They responded with asked with the following.

"This commission is when you receive a bank transfer from a country where is out of the European Union, it is 0.35% of the amount of the transfer with a minimum of 18€. It is since UK is out of the EU”

There is much discussion on various forums regarding this. Some are saying they are being charged to send Euros from Starling to Sabadell and others are saying they are not.

What information do Starling have on this and are you looking at a way of resolving, by being able to send on our behalf via a Euro IBAN?

So many of us are very happy using Starling, but are now having to look at other alternatives for our banking unless this is resolved.

I buy my currency through Currencies Direct who transfer it directly to my Bankia account and I have not seen any specific charges.
