Banks in Spain are not Cambios (money exchange points), it seems this is yet another example of UK citizens who expect Spanish banks to comply with UK procedures. Your right it’s not money exchange, it’s a bank that should be able to deal in ALL currencies, so happy for you that you have had great service from Sabadell Bank 👍

Please don’t call me stupid, that’s extremely rude of you. I can pay who I want in whatever way I want. Thank you 👍

I could pretty much say the same about most Spanish banks. They dont care if you bank there or not. La Caixa manager said to me twice if you're not happy mrs .... please move to another bank. When they decided to put up the costs from 12€ a quarter to 60 despite the fact I send 11k ish in euros every yr that was my cue.

I now have 2 online free accounts BBVA and ImaginBank (part of la caixa) and you can use the branches but to be honest the customer service from BBVA if you.want to speak in English or sort out a problem.is disgusting. So far the online running has been fine but I tried for over 2 months to add my husband to my BBVA online account which after 25 phone calls and 17 emails and a visit to the branch and getting complaints dept involved it wore me down and I gave up but I have had no.problems speaking in english to imaginBank and you can apply online for both of these accounts and receive a debit card quite quickly.

Good Morning Calypso52,

Without being nosey, can I ask why you have 2 On Line accounts at different banks? Also are the on line accounts in English and fairly easy to use and I assume they are both Spanish Banks have a Spanish IBN number and therefor acceptable to all Spanish companies for payment of invoices.

Regards

Hi yes BBVA and ImaginBank are both spanish banks both have branches as mentioned both have IBAN numbers and both you can pay spanish companies from. I send money from my transferwise euro balance account which takes 1 minute. Both have debit cards. Both are free and my phone shows everything Spanish in english due to the settings. Very easy to open just need your NIE number

ALSO Bankia  has VERY BAD reviews on Trust Pilot ..unfortunately I had never heard of Trust Pilot  so I did not know this when I opened our  account for my Pensions ..  Now we have a dispute with them and they have given us a HUGE runaround to get a refund from Booking.com where I paid on my Bankia Visa card for a weeks stay in Barcelona that we had to cancel due to the Virus. We have been recommended Bankinter so looking at changing and WOULD NOT recommend Bankia!!

I tried to open an online account with bankia. Tried for 5 weeks. Wouldnt work got to the video bit then cut off. Rang and rang left messages emailed even messaged on Facebook and they promised to push it through. Nothing done. Waste of space. Trust pilot been around a long time on the internet. Do not use bankia !!! Tried 2 others for online accounts. Customer service is non existent here

I think what this thread shows it that Spanish banks are very hit and miss. So if you dont want to chance wasting half your life trying to deal with Spanish banks (if you are unlucky enough to get stuck with one of those with the negative feedback), then best avoiding them altogether, if you possibly can.
