La Rochelle? Lovely historic port town. Not far off the A10, lovely countryside around Niort too.

I booked our BA Flight from Gatwick to Alicante when the flights were first released at the beginning of the year (fairly cheaply). I received notification in May that the return flight on 18 July had been cancelled but the outbound was still ok. When I contacted BA they said there was availability coming home on 19th and so I booked it. I booked with car rental then decided it was cheaper to do a flight only with BA and separate car hire. They gave me a voucher for the deposit paid of £300 but I had to wait 5 days for it. In that time the flight price was going up & up. Anyway the day I received the voucher I went to book and was horrified to find the price has gone up to £1493 for the 2 of us. I didn’t book but checked again at 6am the following morning and price down to £170pp I grabbed it although it said now departing from Heathrow. Just hoping nothing happens between now and 4th July. Good luck

I don't wish to rain n anyone's parade but it looks like the UK will be in lockdown No2 very soon. Even if it is area by area I fear the EU will just blanket ban air travel from the UK in a month or so. It makes me so angry that I cannot see my family here just because some British idiots felt staying indoors was such an inconvenience!!!!!!

So looks like Leicester is first. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8473607/Leicester-locals-blame-lockdown-paid-no-attention-social-distancing.html

Best......

We live in the UK and are so frustrated with people. We see our NHS, Police and all other services working hard while others just think it is fine to ignore what is actually happening. We are currently purchasing an apartment in your wonderful city, no pool, no bars just a lovely little apartment where we enjoy the Spanish life and mix with Spanish people (obviously now social distancing until this is over). We have been reading the rules of what your country expects of us, we have bought gloves, masks, disinfectant and we know we cannot go to the beaches and bars, we are happy to stay in our apartment if we have to. Knowing that Covid is rising in areas here in England is so frustrating, especially when you know that the minority are not keeping to the rules and it will affect every good citizen. Sooooo frustrating and worrying.

All stay well !!!!

Why not use ba or Ryanair? Worth checking. My ba return was cancelled but I called them and changed it to the following day.  Good luck

We originally had the 4 July Ryanair flight booked from Gatwick, but that was cancelled so it must be something about the Saturday flights that are being cancelled. Ryanair offered us an alternative flight free of charge so that is why we are travelling on Thursday instead of Saturday.

I would stay with Ryanair - pains me to say it but have yu seen the latest Easyjet job losses?

Easyjet=5000 jobs (closing all operations Stanstead, Southend, Newcastle)

Ryanair=3000

TUI=8000

BA= 12000

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8475107/Easyjet-sack-5-000-staff-close-three-bases.html

I would get whatever flight you can as there's bloodshed in the travel industry!!

Spot on Gary. I worked in travel for over 30 years and made redundant because of this virus in March! The flights I think will also show sold out or full because they won’t have full time capacity aircraft (social distancing etc)
