I recently renewed my Spanish driving licence and as usual had an eye test, a hearing test and a co-ordination test. The co-ordination test is to check your re-action time to keeping two moving dots (or squares, etc.) on a computer screen along two side by side lines (just like an old fashioned fairground machine), by using two handles or computer mice depending upon how up to date the equipment is. The examiner also needed to know what medical problems I have and what medication I was taking. The cost was less than 50 euros - each psicotecnico office has their own cost. Those over 70 years of age can receive new licences for from one up to five years duration depending upon your test results and medical condition. Ages below 70 can receive their new licence for up to 10 years.
For anything to do with driving in Spain have a look at the N332 website. It is for English speaking people and is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil, it also has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.
