Moving to Costa Blanca what's the best way to source a car

It's very expensive getting a UK car put on Spanish plates and you will still have a UK car on Spanish plates that reduces its value. It can be awkward at entry points too. Better to start proper and buy a Spanish car......

When it comes to non OEM changes or modifications to cars Spanish authorities are notoriously strict on what is permitted and not, converting a RHD car to LHD will unquestionably fall under not making such a vehicle impossible to register. 

Buy in Spain, you know it makes sense!

I would definitely recommend buying in Spain.  Prices for second hand are higher than in the UK, but will hold its value better.

I have had very good experience recently with online seller Autohero.  Wide choice of cars with detailed and totally transparent presentation including a photo of every blemish, full history etc. Cars all stored in Madrid but with free local pick up in Alicante. All admin. and documentation by email.  Payment in advance or on pick up but always with the option of cancelling or money back, even if you just change your mind.  My car exceeded expectations.  Experience with Autohero was in complete contrast to looking a car in a Flexicar showroom accompanied by a salesman full of BS.

  I have driven a RHD car here since 2018 and it's not a problem. I doubt the cost of converting you car to LHD would be economical. If you are moving here permanently then you may be able to bring the car in free of import taxes.

If I was coming over here now as a non-resident I probably would not bother bringing a car over, the advantage of knowing the car's history would be outweighed by the costs involved (in my view).

I bought an ex rental Citroen C3 from COYS Cars in Torrevieja some 3 years ago. It was about 3 years old when I got it with low mileage due to the Covid restrictions and it has proved to be a good investment. Citroen dealer nearby confirmed that COYS had their fleet in for regular servicing and any repairs religiously with their dealership for many years. It may be worth looking into it?

Any advice on car hire from Alicante airport for 5 weeks from mid-Feb? (Staying in Moraira). Im wondering if it wld be cheaper to rent for one month, then add on a week.

Might be better to start a new thread with this question, but I would expect it's better to hire for two separate periods, three weeks then two. You can easily try with different dates and many providers on Holiday Autos web site, but I'd always book direct with the supplier.
