Welcome to Alicante,
Have you tried Leroy Merlin? It’s located very near to Gran Via shopping center, the one with large Primark. I’m sure it’s the largest DIY in the area but there could be others.
They have shops next door that stock household items as well. Media Mart,
JYSK, Alcampo and several small shops.
If you look at my posts you’ll see a few helpful hints and perhaps some replies.
We’ve bought in Alicante City, 10 mins from Central Mercado, and are interested in meeting others. We haven’t met very many who speak english.
Good luck :)

Before buying anything from MediaMarkt check out on their (very restrictive) return policies - very hard to get money back, if faulty you are required to prove a preexisting failure which is almost impossible. Customer Service is very lazy and long waiting times may be intentional to discourage anyone.

Hi, there are several diy/hardware shops in the city- they are called" ferreteria". There is one in Calle Calderon the street to the right hand side of Mercado central, which is quite good. No English spoken but they are helpful. A bigger one where you can browse a bit more is in Calle Pintor Lorenzo Casanova. The Branch of El Corte Ingles at the Junction with Masonnave and Calle Dr Gadea has a diy department. (English spoken).
If you want a bigger b and q type store then you need to get out of the Centre of the city. Leroy Merlin is one I have been to and you can get there on the bus. Its address is Vista Hermosa. It is on a large retail park. I think I got the number 10 bus from The Rambla, but you may want to check that. It was about 15minutes journey. I would advise you go to the tourist info which is also on the Rambla and they will help with bus info.
Finally nearest Ikea is Murcia and they deliver but I havent used them.
Good luck with your project,
Simon.

Hi just a quick question nothing by to do with the original post... We have a house in Santa Pola I got off the train at Alicante train station the other week and went for a little wander, and was amazed of the little I saw what a great city Alicante looks !! We're out for August so are there any recommendations on things to do in the city ? We did Santa Barbara castle last year ( brilliant) ! Looking at a Segway tour this year ! But would welcome any ideas

Not sure yet but the train goes to valencia and down to benidorm and elche , there are boat trips and a nature park with a lake just on the outskirts if that helps
