Hi to all expats,

I am an Irish /Welsh lady planning to move to Alicante or Torrevieja to retire.

I would like to ask you if it's easy to make friends in Alicante and if you recommend the lifestyle.

I now live in Switzerland where I find people too reserved, this us my main reason for moving to Spain. Also it is a very expensive country to retire in.

I am very sociable,I like to keep fit ,I love cycling, walking, gym, singing and theatre.

Would you recommend living in Alicante rather than Torrevieja ? I hesitate between them.Unfortunately I don't drive ,so I need to be near shops and the beach.

Last question, what would be the average monthly budget for one person to live comfortably in Alicante in a 2 bedroom modern apartment? I would like to rent for six months at first and then consider buying a modern flat. Comparing with Switzerland it must be quite reasonable !

Thank you in advance for your replies.

What passport do you hold ?

If your passport is British, you need to apply for a Non-Lucrative visa, which requires a demonstrable income of approx 28K Euros/year (pension, savings or a mix of the two).

So it is not about how much you need to live, but whether or not you meet the minimum financial threshold.

On the other hand, if you have a passport from ROI, life is much easier.

Hello, I hope that your new environment is working well for you. I just arrived in Alicante city just a month ago and I’m really pleased with the convenience factor, as well as the genuinely friendly locals. Last night I found  great jazz bar in the Center…..rare these days. And the MACA is surprisingly well curated. I’m Irish and glad to be back in the civilised world after too many years in the US.
any football, culture, genuinely sharing types out there?
