Hello everyone,

We're moving to Spain next week's, flying to Porto, because the airline we know that has a very good reputation for pet's care, doesn't fly to Spain until October. We plan to rent a car a proceed...

I'm not sure if there's anyone who can guide me, but we find all kinds of links about flying to Portugal from Canada. Some say we need covid test, some, that we don't.

We have a pup with us and therefore we don't want to get stuck, not allowed to enter the country for any reason.

Also, what are the requirements flying from Canada to Portugal and then crossing the Spanish border?

My partner has NLV, I'm travelling with Canadian passport, since my Slovak passport hasn't been reissued on time.

Thank you for any advice.

Mia

Canadian citizens do not require a visa for entering the EU. Border controls between Portugal and Spain are negligent. The Portuguese highway toll system is tricky (electronic surveillance as you go) there are no toll booths. You will have to pay in advance over the internet (browse for "portagem Portugal"). Perhaps the car hire company can do this for you. Preferrably consider the following itinerary: A1 - IP5 (toll) -A52 to Salamanca - A50 to Avila (toll free)-AP51-AP6 (pay toll at Villacastin and San Rafael, no more tolls beyond). Stay on AP6/A6 (heavy traffic) and watch out for M50 Continue on M50 to exit 31 (Valencia) and take the A3 to Albacete. From there on the A31 and tkae exit 223 - follow AP7 and take A7 (Murcia) to exit 528, follow AP7 (toll road) and leave on exit - and that's it. Depending on your arrival time in Porto you will have to stop over on your way. Most hotels do not accept pets. In intenstvely travelled througout Spain and Portugal over the last 40 years, and no doubt can give a few more hints 4 your journey.
