Hi all.

Im not sure if this post reaches throughout Spain so if you spot this maybe you can repost to wherever you are located. Thanks..

Just wanted to make people aware of the fact that even out of season there are pick pockets at work everywhere... This is not limited to Spain this problem is Worldwide.!!!

My wife and I were walking in Alicante City the other day and good thing I have eyes in the back of my head as I caught a pick pocket trying to get into my wife's hand bag and pushed them away...

Advice ladies... carry you handbag in front of you and guys put ur wallets in your front pocket..

Backpacks are very Easy targets .!!!!

Do not keep passports or valuables in back packs...

Added info...

Please do not comment on Spanish people as a whole.... This is meant to be informative information as a whole.. It is not a dig at Spanish people.

These issues exist in many countries and not everybody is aware of potential problems when traveling.

It has nothing to do with common sense.

It can happen to anyone.!!!!

It always amazes me the number of posts on the Forum from people who have "lost" wallets, purses etc, particularly in Benidorm, too much Sun and booze and not enough common sense.

John this is easy to say if you are aware that everyone in Spain is a potential thief, but when you are loading your trailer at Brico Depot you don't expect anyone to go into your car and steal stuff, or if you are changing a flat tyre. you must always lock your vehicle even if you are standing by it.

...y it.

Why say "everyone is a potential thief in Spain" as it is no different in the U.K. or Ireland.

greg1968 is talking about Alicante in Spain, you condemn anyone who gets robbed in Benidorm which is in Spain, this forum is in Spain, these are the reasons that I said Spain.

I was not condemning people who get robbed but merely was pointing out it is not something unique to Spain ( whether it be Alicante, Benidorm or anywhere else ) but is a Worldwide problem. Barcelona gets a reputation as the pickpocket capital of the World but I have seen pickpockets operating in the Vatican in Rome and what about the "scooter thieves" in London who snatch mobile phones from the hands of their owners or from handbags casually sat on the ground while their owners enjoy a coffee.

John, we're not talking about the world in general, this is an expat forum where people talk about their experiences in Spain (good and bad) why do you pick out bits of a post and try to make an argument.

If you take the time to read the original post he stated  " This is not limited to Spain this problem is Worldwide.!!! " so I think it relevant to mention examples of the problem where ever it happens,

John, these are your words all about people in Spain and posting on this Costa Blanca forum, and you are suggesting that anyone who gets robbed in Spain must be drunk or simple. Where is the world generalization there ?

That might be your interpretation, to which you are entitled, but the point that I was making was that some people fail to protect their possessions. I initially mentioned Benidorm  and later expanded that to various examples. The Forum is about opinion, advice and debate, I was not aware that it was limited to talking about Spain to the exclusion of everywhere else.
