I live less than 10 minutes from the town and beaches in Guardamar del Segura. Most of the towns/villages in the area have Spanish residents. So the  bars/restaurants are Spanish owned and run for the Spanish. So although there are expats in the towns, the majority live just outside those areas. The urbanisations generally have more British run bars/restaurants, with lots of activities to get involved with.

I live on an urbanisation which is full of expats of various nationalities. I have a choice of 10 places to eat and drink within a 10 minute walk. But within a 10 minute drive I can visit Spanish towns of Rojales, Benijofar, Los Montesinos etc etc. My urbanisation comes under the municipality of Guardamar, so within that ten minute drive (or bus ride) I have a busy town, port, miles of sandy beaches and beautiful parks.

The location ticked all our boxes when we moved and that’s the most important thing you need to do now and find a location that feels right for you.

I am an over 70 Pensioner asking for Advice, Information, and constructive opinions as to my chances of

being able to live in the Costa Brava area of Spain.  My desire to emigrate to Spain has increased since the

passing of my wife in June 2021. As many people know and accept you can't live on memories and you

must get on with life. I know this is a bold step but being prepared for it, with the Forum's help I will achieve it,

and advice and Information of all kinds is essential to ensure I don't fail on my quest.

When I reached pensionable age of 65, I embarked on a different journey. My goal was, (as a pensioner), was

to go trekking in the Himalayas, up in the Annapurna Sanctuary.  Needless to say, I achieved it.

I am now 82 and would like to retire to the Alicante region. I am seeking an area that is mainly British ex- pat but still maintains

the influence of traditional Spain, I would be looking for a apartment to rent on a long term basis with at least 2 bedrooms, fairly

close to beach with facilities. The rent I am willing to pay would depend on the quality of the property. Needles to say a garage

would be a necessity and preferably within the area.

Any assistance and advice to begin a new chapter in my already adventurous life, will be gratefully received.

Thank you

Regarding the income of £28,000 per year. Can you come over to live as a resident on a state pension which would not be £28,000 pa but with savings in the bank as a form of income? And if so for how many years do you have to prove you have this £28,000 income? It all seems so complicated, so if someone could explain in simple terms, I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance

Or the number of times Golandrina could copy and paste their post about Citizens Advice and the N332 site, they would have won 10 lollypops.

I may post the same reply quite a number of times but if the same types of question are asked then it shows that there are still individuals out there who need to know the answers.

We have a 90 year old friend who moved to the Costa Blanca four years ago, many years after his wife’s death. He loves living here.

He chose Guardamar de Segura to rent his home - fabulous long beach, parks, bars, restaurants, shops,  English and other nationalities as well as being a real Spanish town, even public transport - somewhat rare in this area....

...

try a holiday there first perhaps…😎

Guardamar del Segura is such a lovely Spanish town,  plenty to do. It gets very busy in the Summer as lots of people who live in Madrid own holiday homes there , or spend their summer there.

But it's a good choice

Some regions will accept yearly income and some savings to bring it up to value for a non lucrative visa. To keep the visa valid you need to prove the income requirements on years 2 and 4. (Same with healthcare requirements) After 5 years you can then apply for residency and the TIE. After that you need not have to prove income.

If you are a couple then the income requirements are around €34,000.

You will also need to meet the healthcare requirements. You will need full private healthcare which needs to be paid for a full year.

There are some other documents that you will need which may need to be translated into Spanish.

Hello Red.......

Firstly you will need to apply for a non lucrative visa from the Spanish consulate in London, Manchester or Edinburgh.

As a single person you will need to prove that you have an income of around €28,000 per annum and have full private healthcare paid for a full year. After your first full year here you can apply for healthcare through the S1 healthcare scheme which is paid for by the UK government.

There will be some other documents that you have to show but easily obtained.

If you are successful with your non lucrative visa you can move over to Spain and apply for residency.

How to apply for a Non-Lucrative visa (NLV)

Hi Red, I know that my friends that are pensioners that still live in the U.K.are financially better off with their pensions rising every April also they got £350 for their winter heating cost,be prepared to lose that,as for the €28,000 they want you to put in a Spainish bank I can’t see what this is for, considering the U.K. state pension is around £10,000 p/y and you have to take out a health care plan. This money in a bank is a mystery of what it is exactly for, mybe someone on this site can inform us all,  All the best on your move, and another thing Red don’t be put off by this appalling weather,it will warm up.

Firstly, you still get the annual increase on your pension, I got mine 2 weeks ago. I have been living in Spain for 8 years.

Secondly,  the 28,000 euros doesn't necessarily have to "be in the bank"....

You have to prove that you have an income of €28,000 (or €34,000 for a couple) from pensions etc. You can also, in some regions, have a smaller income and prove you have a very healthy bank account. These income requirements need to be proven on years 2 and 4 otherwise the visa will become void.

Full private healthcare is required by each member of the family.

If your getting your yearly pension rises then obviously the Gov.U.K. are not aware your living abroad, maybe you should inform them because my neighbour when found out had to pay all the extra money back.Still no one has explained to either Ray or me what this staggering amount of €28,000 is for when you have to covered yourself with private health care, what is it for?

You are very mistaken, everyone in the UK,  UK government officials and HMRC know I've lived here for 8 years. I informed HMRC about paying my taxes in Spain under the dual tax agreement.

Spain is a country where pension rises are applicable,  please get your facts right!!

The 28,000 is to prove that you can afford to live in Spain without becoming a burden on the state......
