Hi,

I will be looking for a Spanish holiday home some time in the next year hopefully and see lots of very well priced apartments in Alicante City mainly in the North of the city. As budget will be a big factor does anyone have experience of having a property in the city and could recommend areas to buy or avoid?  I imagine Alicante is like anywhere else with good and not so good bits.

Many thanks

Hi

thanks very much for the reply. Very helpful. I should have mentioned that I had read the areas to the north of the city were best avoided. I think I'm going to wait for a while and weigh up options as I take on board what you are saying about the costs involved. As you say there's no hurry at all. Thanks again

Hi, we are currently in the middle of purchasing an apartment just outside the city. We have visited the area about 7 times and decided to stay in some of the different areas in the city. The area can differ from street to street. Many of the apartments in the cheaper areas do not have a pool or a lift which we didn't mind. Is there any particular areas you have been looking at?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. No particular area in city as I don't really know it. I was just thinking proximity to airport etc. I know some of the surrounding areas like santa pola etc but I suppose I need to factor in maintenance costs over the year etc so as yet still undecided

Hi Caroline,

Many people warned us about the north of the city, when we stayed there, we spent a few weeks in different areas. The Juan XXiii area was a no go. We felt slightly awkward walking through the area but was not attacked or verbally abused or anything like that. There is lots of rubbish and generally is run down. However, a few roads about 200m towards the tram, the area was much better. You can still see rubbish on the floor, graffiti etc but cleaners are out all the time, I think the city are trying to improve these areas, there are buildings being repainted. Then we stayed the other side of the tram line. This was so much better, cleaner, people were lovely, very Spanish, lots of people sit outside at night and during the day. The tram is cheap and regular trams to the beach and shopping centres. We really like it there. For the prices of the properties you need to way up the prioritise what you want. We did. When we were first looking, we looked in lots of different places, we even went on A Place in the Sun show.   We ended up going for a completely different area and type of apartment than we set out to buy.

We love the city and to have an apartment just outside it is wonderful for us. We just cannot wait until it goes through.

Hello DonnaRose,

I saw your post and I too want to buy a townhouse or apartment in or near Alicante city.I don't drive so I want to be near a beach ,shops and restaurants. For me it's a permanent move.

Where would you advise to search.

What about Gran Alicant?

I personally like the idea of being near Alicante city.I don't mind being a 10 mins bus ride outside.

I see you advise avoiding the north of the city.

Thanks in advance,

Ursula

P.S. I am visiting Alicante city for a week at Easter

Hello Caroline,

I read your reply post to DonnaRose.

I am hopng to move to Spain in 18months time.

I can't chose between San Pola,Campelli,Alicante city or Gran Alucant. I don't drive and would like to be near the beach and restaurants. I don't want to live in a very noisy area, but not isolated in the middle of nowhere either.

If  public transport is good ,I wouldn't mind taking a 10 min bus ride to the beach. However,I have no idea what it's like 🤔

Thanks in advance,

Ursula

Hi,

I do find it hard to recommend as people look for different things.

There are so many lovely places in the area.

If you want to be near the city, look on the tram routes, then you have the option if using the tram as well as the buses, they are really cheap and very good.

I have never been to Gran Alicant but heard it is nice.

We are close to the hospital in Alicante. Loads of restaurants, cafes, Spanish people, shops. But I would just recommend going and viewing. The place we bought wasn't even one we had looked at on the Internet, it was one our estate agent showed us because the keys were not available for the one we had asked to see.

There is also community groups you can join on Facebook,  people on there can give you an idea too. Well worth researching and looking around. Definitely look at prices of different areas as they differ so much.

Good luck

Check out the tram and bus roots in the city. They are very good.

I have been making some videos of the city area to help people get to know the area, I am in the first stages. I'll try and add a link. Videos some are linked to the city

Try clicking on these. The one of the park is in a residential area in the city, you also can see the C6 bus route which goes to the city, the tram etc. Hope it is helpful.
