Hi,

Myself and my husband are hoping to buy a small apartment in Alicante city in the New Year.  We have been thrawling through property sites and seeing some lovely apartments but having only visited Alicante once and not knowing much about the different residential areas, it is hard to know where we can get a good apartment at a decent price in a nice area.

So my question is:

Can anyone recommend a good residential area to buy an apartment, which we would hope to spend more and more time in over the next few years, but somewhere that is either within walking distance to the centre or that has good transport links.  Most importantly, are there any areas that we should perhaps shy away from.......

Many thanks

M

Hi M

A six million dollar question?  😊 As you know everyone has a different idea of where to buy?  Only you can decide in the end.  And your budget will be key!

We bought an apartment in Alicante city in 2017.  We love the buzz of the place, open all year, not just during the summer months.  The transport links are brilliant and improving which is a great sign.  We don’t intend to keep a car, so having 3 different bus routes and a tram within a few minutes walk from our door keeps us connected to most areas.  Many parts of the city are not beautiful to look at, ugly and run down.  We persisted and after a few return visits we bought our place.  🌞

Generally it’s agreed that some areas north of the city are more run down.  Juan xx iii is one such neighborhood.  Hopefully the Ayuntamiento will improve that whole area.   But when?

We used https://www.inmolux.es/   Ask for María José Jamie.  She spoke English and helped us through the entire process.

Remember you WILL need air conditioning in the hot summer months and some form of heat in the winter.

Good luck with your search

Best regards

Maria

Almost forgot, some of the nicest apartments will be on high floors with NO lifts.

Maria,

Thank you very much for your very helpful reply.

I was unsure about Juan XXIII so am glad I asked the question.

The link you provided was brilliant.

thanks again

Hi, We have an apartment in Alicante city,  La Florida area, Gran Via, just west of the central train station. 2 bus routes into the city. Run every 20 mins. Plenty of shops and drinking places locally.  Been made very welcome by the locals. The area is being improved all the time. We found a great solicitor, out of area, but was very on the ball, as our "agent" selling the property was a bit dodgy to say the least. A surprise refund of 900 euros was also very welcome. Buying was a great experience, never any regrets. We get out there as much as possible. 24hr Irish bar nearby, which is really handy if you arrive late. Been there nearly 4 years. If your on a late flight, remember to get a pint of milk at the airport.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the feedback!

How long would It take for the bus to get to the centre of town?

Would you walk it?

I’ve seen a few apartments advertised in that area so will take a closer look.

Thanks for the tip about the milk as well!

Hi,

The number 2 bus takes about 15 - 20 mins to get into the town centre, goes to The Rambla, and old town square, then to the beach. This one we use most of the time. The number 3 is a similar time, but you get off at the Rambla, or any of the stops in town. Both have the fixed price regardless of where you get off 1:80 euros, one way.

We nearly always walk into town. Takes 20 mins to get to Cort de Ingles main store, and all the brand named stores and another 10 mins to the street with the mushrooms. There is a nice Tapas bar near Zara Home, which is where i tend to chill out when my partner is shopping.

Taxi from the old town, near the roundabout with the water fountain by the marina will cost about 5 euros - 7 euros depending on the driver! back to the apartment.  If in doubt where to ask for, the "Red Bridge" is known by all the drivers.

Not met any other Brits in this area yet. No golf, no pool. A Spanish residential area. A handful of squares in the area, that are often used for celebrations and BIG screen sports events. A good gym, Banks, Post office and a very good Mercadona, with Carrefour close by.

Hope this helps.

Hi Chris,

Alicante is great, lots going on.  We find something different every time we go there.

Yes I agree about buses.  Easy to get around.  We live near Alicante Hospital and the University.  But the city is quite small and 10mins takes us by bus to the Central Mercado and 15mins to beach.
Just to say Chris if you get a multi trip bus card at Luceros tram station, or TAM shop, your fare will be closer to 1€ per bus trip.

Best regards

Maria

All of this information is really helpful.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I’ve seen lots of apartments for sale in Alipark, which I think is near enough to where you are, Chris.

What’s you impression of that area?

Hi. We walk through this area a lot. Seen a supermarket, and a few bars. Very Spanish. Seems clean and bustling. Well placed for access to all areas.

I would be happy looking in that area.
