Has anyone exported PIP (Personal Independence Payment) to Spain since 01 Jan 2021?
I receive a UK State pension and also PIP Daily Living Component (enhanced rate). I hope to move to Spain permanently this year around July. Up until 31 Dec 2020 it was possible to export (continue to receive) PIP Daily Living Component if you had Residencia in Spain. I had originally planned to move to Spain in July 2020 and everything would have been straightforward, but, like thousands of others, I couldn’t because of the pandemic.
Since 01 Jan 2021, the rules have changed and, according to the GOV.UK website you can only export PIP if you lived OR worked in Spain prior to 2021.
In 2019 I spent 2 months in Spain attending Spanish language courses at the University of Alicante and I submitted an online form on the GOV.UK website stating this. See the result here.
I then received an email stating that I would need to send proof of my visits (which I have) and that this would be ‘submitted to the Decision Makers Legal Team for an outcome’, but that I could only do that 4 weeks before I move.
The good news is that they didn’t give me a straight NO, but I was hoping they could give me an indication that, provided I have the proof, that my time in Spain in 2019 does qualify me for the export. As it currently stands, I would have to make all the arrangements to move before I even know if I am going to receive PIP. Catch-22.
If anyone (who didn’t have Residencia prior to 2021) has managed to export PIP since 01 Jan 2021, I would really appreciate your feedback, including what time you spent in Spain previously.
