Right - here goes - I am a 50 year old woman who has not flown for 30 years.

I really want to overcome my fear and come over to Spain.  I would live to stay near a beach, not that far from the airport as I don't want a long drive after the flight - so looking around Alicante.

I have been looking and can't seem to find the right area where it's quiet with minimal children ! and only a short walk to shops, bars, and the beach.

I would be grateful of your advice - thats if I manage to get on the plane !

Why not stay in Alicante City itself? Lots of sightseeing, shopping and there is a beach right beside the marina.

Hi Lorna, I would suggest you book your holiday when the children are at school, so that rules out July and August.  And if you fly into Murcia instead of Alicante you can head to the coast around the Mar Menor which is much quieter.  A pair of headphones and a good book might make you more comfortable about being on the aircraft.  Good luck  hope it works out for you.

Santa Pola , just 15 minutes down the road from the airport  …as oxonia says , July & August will be busy , of course , with kids and visitors from out of town  but from about September 10 , kids will be back at school , tourists gone for the most part and still pretty hot.

For a day out , you can take a bus to Alicante or down toward Torrevieja.

Very good suggestion and there is the tram to explore along the coast north of Alicante.

Santa Pola would be ideal for you. Lovely sandy beaches, village square and local shops for all you need.

Easy to get around on foot.

Buses to Alicante and Elche if you want a day out.

Can't think of anywhere that would fit your requirements better.

Cheers, J

Since you mention children: If you are "allergic" to children's play noise you should not stay near any square/park/fountain/playground or similar.  Those kind of places are used by children and their families in Spain, and that's what they are there for. Ordinary apartments are also not in any way soundproof. Noise from ordinary living  is in general  not considered ground for complaints here. From posts on here and talks with Brits I understand this to be different in Britain. 🙂
