Looking for a job: TEACHING ENGLISH

Welcome to Alicante.  We are semi retired and own our home in Alicante City.  Are you in Alicante now?  Tonight at the Marina, there is a big event run by Internations. Have you found the Internations.Org site below?  It is a very worthwhile and interesting forum for expats from many Countries.  We’ve been to a few events, dinner nights, coffee mornings.  People of all ages attend the events and make contacts with people.  Various careers are discussed in addition to social events.

Please read through my previous posts here and you will read about Alicante. It’s a great City and having travelled around Costa Blanca, I feel it’s got everything that anyone would need to enjoy a new lifestyle.  The transport links alone are a major deciding factor.  

There is Alicante University offering several English classes to all age groups. There is an International School between Santa Pola and Alicante.   There are many private agencies offering English classes.  Google search found several possibilitys for you to perhaps email your interest.  Wishing you every success.

Alicante city is the best option for finding work. Business level English is a necessary skill for most companies. I attend business English courses at the Cámara de Comercio (Chamber of Commerce) Alicante. English is my first language, they are always happy to have a native English speaker in the class. I attend to help with my Spanish. 

Try contacting the Cámara de Comercio they may have a few companies looking for native English tuition. The University may be able to help. Theres also the Digital District in Alicante. Alicante is a growing new media hub. It’s essential for the companies to communicate. English is the common language of the digital industries.

I’m considering a radio operators course to operate drones in controlled air space. One of the requirements is I pass the Cambridge level 4 English qualification. Thats a language teaching opportunity, somebody will be required to teach these courses to native Spanish speakers. Spanish pilots are now required to speak English as the common language.

Theres also opportunities with the supermarkets. In the tourist areas they require their staff to have a basic shop English. Products and prices. 

Business English is a growth area, Spanish companies are expanding into the English speaking world. They have trouble with converting their marketing and product descriptions into English language.

If you research the market there should be somewhere you fit in. It will be necessary to learn basic Spanish to communicate with the students. You may have to upgrade your English teaching qualifications. Knock a few doors, meet a few people. Make new friends. It’s possible to make a living in Spain teaching English as a business language.

I left Alicante October 1st; back in Canada. We have been working with or real estate agent in Gran Alacant to find suitable home in the area. 

I am not familiar with anything you're mentioning, but I will work on it. To find people there to network, to get advice and guidance throughout our first steps are more than appreciated!

Teaching English is one of many options I may try, but I'd like to have something to lined up before I arrive. Would you be able to guide me where to search to look for a job? I can see another great response to my message below, so all these look-ups will be keeping me busy :)

I will contact the Chamber of Commerce, I'll have a few questions.

You're mentioning quite a few times about teaching English as a native English speaker. And that I am not. I was born and raised in Slovakia, living in Canada for 23 years now. After obtaining my certificates from Cambridge, Toronto, I was assured these certificates are valid all over the world except Canada. I taught English in Slovakia for 4 years, ages from 10 - 60 years old.

Is there any link, you could kindly forward to me, where I can closely look up into job openings in my field? I have registered with EU JOBS, but the forum won't allow me to participate on any discussion (?)

As per my Spanish; I am determined to learn the language fluently fast. I love to study a new language, that's why I have chosen to live in Spain to learn this language. For me, this is the easiest task to learn a language in a country where it is spoken.

When I say native you could substitute the words fluent, high skill level etc. 

Infojobs.net is the place to look for English speaking work. Put inglés in the search box.

When you contact the Chamber a few lines in Spanish from Google translate would be helpful. The office/admin staff usually only speak Spanish.
