Hello everybody,

my partner, who's Canadian has applied for NIE, he got an email on February 2nd that it's been issued at spanish embassy. He supposedly gets in within 3 weeks.

Now, to get his visa, I've heard, he will have to send his passport (with NIE attached) to Toronto for 3 months. Is this correct? Is there any other way to obtain visa? Because he will have to fly within 2 months, and by giving up the passport, he won't be able to.

Can you guide us?

Thank you

Mia

Family members (irrespective of their nationality) of a EU citizen enjoy the same privileges as EU citizen.

The Spanish consulate in Toronto say:

Your visa will be processed in four weeks. We will send it to you in express post.

As regards the passport, I suggest asking them if this is returned with the visa or before that.

Even if we are not married? That means, we don't share the same surname?
