Hello everyone,

I didnt know which city I should choose, if we still browse around before we move to Alicante province next year.

Here is my inquiry; I am Slovak, living in Canada. I have dual citizenship. I have applied for Slovak passport 3 months ago, but because of the name change (marriage/divorce), there's been tons of documents that had to be sent and waited for. Slovak bureaucracy doesn't have competitor (!), and that's why this may be a year long waiting. If not more..

I have learned that to enter, live and work in Spain, I need (if I don't have Slovak/EU passport yet) a national ID of Slovakia. I have never heard of that and nobody back in Slovakia can give me an answer. I have, however a document, that I received 3 months ago, that I am Slovak citizen. Would this one do it for me? If yes, I assume, it needs to be translated and confirmed by notary. Do I need to get it translated to Spanish and then taken to Notary? The paper says, it is only accepted in the original form. Being translated it's not original anymore.......Gosh, I am so steamed up with all these legal stuff ... and I am only at the beginning.. :(

Anybody there, who can guide me?

Thank you

Mia

Hi Mia,

To be honest you are unlikely to find someone on this forum who can guide you with your legal stuff.

This is a link to an International law firm.  Perhaps an email to them might provide an answer.

Hola    I think you need to take some legal advice     But I am sure Slovakia joined the EU   some 15 years ago

I also know a Canadian Man   who has lived in Los Alcázares for many  years  he just goes to the immigration office every so often

the office is    Ministerio de migraciones Y seguridad social    Calle Francisco Alfonso Hidalgo Martinez  38   in Murcia

so as a citizen of the EU    you do have some rights         Best of Luck

Thank you, Dave.

Yes, Slovakia has been part of EU since 2004. We have an appointment at the Spanish embassy in a couple of weeks.

Do Canadians have to leave Spain after 90 days even if they have NIE#?

Regards;

Mia

Hola   my friend George    has been in Spaiñ a very long time    as far as I am aware he has not returned  home for a long time

he does have some limitations  such as the need to update his Padron and Residencia often

not sure about his NIE    (I would have thought no)      best to seek advice from someone in the legal game

Best of Luck

Hi Mia

Hope your plans are going well.

On your question re NIE.  Answer is  No.

Quoting Jim’s Guide here

An EU citizen needs an NIE number only, and can use their passport as identification. Non-EU citizens also need a TIE (Tarjeta de Identificación de Extranjero) which is a plastic card with a photo and NIE number, and obviates they need to use a passport for identification. It is a direct equivalent of a Spanish citizen's DNI.

The guide link for NIE is here
