Hi All, Does anybody know how long does it take to receive a return on UK NIC Class 3 voluntary payments, and is it worth it?

UK DWP letter
Estimate up to year 05/04/2023 I'd get £76.41 a week & this may change in the future; based on current laws no guarantee.
If I contribute until year 05/04/32 forecast is £133.29 a week & this may change in the future; based on current laws no guarantee.

I can enhance my forecast to £221.20 a week and this may in the future; based on current laws no guarantee.

This is all based on my UK National Insurance record up to 05/04/2032.

UK HMRC letter states
I've 11 qualifying years of NICs up to 05/04/2024.
To pay NICs volunary contributions for Class 3 form CF83 needs to be completed and returned.

They state I could pay voluntary NICs from years 2006 to 2023. Cost = £12,342.70pence.

Purchasing tax years 2006 - 2016 individually each year will approximately add a further £5.65 (I assume weekly) to my current State Pension amount.  I'd have to pay £6,625.30pence.  How long do I need to live to receive all my money back?

Purchasing tax years 2016 to 2023 each year will approximately add a further £6.32 to my current State Pension amount.  I'd have to pay £6,541.60pence.  How long do I need to live to receive all my money back?

If I purchase all 16 years my State Pension estimate would increase by £171.50. (I assume they mean per week).
How long do I need to live to receive all my money back?

I may also make qualifying years in the future through voluntary NI contributions; each extra qualify year generally incrased my weekly State Pension by 1/35 (about £6.32 (I assume per week). until I reach the full State Pension amount or my final tax year before State Pension age.

They also state if I add 9 future NI qualifying years they estimate that my State Pension would increase to £133.29 (assume per week).
This would mean from year 2006 to 2013 I'd have to first pay £6,625.30 NI voluntary class 3 contributions.

If I pay for 9 future NI qualifying years (before 25/04/2025 deadline date) how long would I need to live to receive a return on all my money (and for my next of kin to inherit)?

As a Spanish resident in Spain how much tax and social contributions does one pay on their UK State Pension in Valencia, Spain?

Is anybody else in this situation, and have they paid?

Is it worth it?

With the global turbulence I'm very concerned that if I paid any amount I might not receive a financial return on my hard earned State Pension.

I'd speak to a financial adviser rather than posting for advice from random strangers who know nothing about you, your health, age or personal circumstances......

Hi  Kim

I  cannot  help  answer  your questions  but  I  am in Similar  situations  I applied  in August  2023 and  still  waiting  for  reply,  When  did you  apply,  When I  call   Newcastle   I  can  be 2  hours  waiting,   When  did I  apply

My  understanding  is  if  you do  not  Pay  added contributions  before April  2025,  claim is  null  and  void.

What  is  your view  on it

Hi Sligogent, Thank you for your speedy reply;  the comforting fact is we are not alone!  We all fall under the baby boomer era so it will be a mammoth task to process everything; Sadly UK DWP and HMRC do not provide an email and each office has only one telephone number for a government Agent.  I called at 9am Spanish local time and was still waiting for more than 20 minutes in an automatic Agent telephone loop which has cost me more than €200euros.  Telephone number is 00 44 191 218 3600 (Monday to Friday between 08H00 & 18H00 UK local time).

16 August 2024 UK DWP sent me a copy of my State Pension Forecast.
Today, 26-09-24 I got a letter (dated 05-09-24) from HMRC.

Do you know if our hard earned UK taxed pensions have a bilateral tax pension agreement with Spain?  Meaning one does not twice pay pension tax.

Do you also know if we have to pay social contributions on our hard earned  taxed pensions?  If yes, what is the amount?

For decades by all means of communication I have been contacting them, and only recently got some information.

I understand that if one has 10 years they are eligible(at this moment (possible subject to unknown changes at their discretion) and entitled to qualify for a UK State Pension.  For Class 3 one can pay voluntary national insurance contributions.  If you decide to do so I think one must start paying many of the NI voluntary contributions before April 2025, I am waiting for crystal clear confirmation.

I'm worried about all these conditional words ('can, may, could, possible etc.) and subject to unknown changes in the laws etc.  Very devious.
Why is the UK government not being 100% open, honest, truthful and transparent?  They should 100% definitely guarantee and approve this regardless of what political government party is in power.  In some EU countries politicial parties and governments are not allowed to touch government pensions and social benefits because everybody pays high taxes which is sufficient for each person to live reasonably comfortable.

I'm also concerned that the government might change everything and we all end up in financial debt (years ago this happened inthe UK and private pensions that went bust).

Delighted to hear your thoughts.
Cheers

Tax is only paid in Spain once you become a fiscal resident (except on crown pensions). You must tell HMRC that you are now tax resident in Spain so they won't include UK pensions in your income. Form Spain Individual (FD9) along with a statement of fiscal residency from the Spanish tax office. Pensions are included in world wide income in Spain

You will not pay NI in UK nor will you pay social security payments in Spain unless your are working.

I'm not going to get involved in the debate re buying additional years (although the generally accepted view is that the payback [on average] is worth it.

I'll just comment on your phone experience - don't dial using a standard mobile/land line. Call them via Wifi as that should be free given you are already paying for the internet.

Turn off mobile data and dial the number via WhatsApp/Microsoft Teams etc.
