I arrived in Alicante in March 2021, obtained the padron in April, obtained the Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la UE (as an Irish national) in May 2021 and obtained my SIP card from the local medical centre in June 2021.

Since then I have not returned to the medical centre until yesterday. When I handed them my SIP card I was told that I was "de baja" in their system because of a "baja" in the padron. They said this happened on Sept 30 2022.

I have been at the same Alicante address since March 2021 and have not solicited any change myself. I have been told I first need to register for the padron again because the medical centre will not accept my original certificate due to it being more than six months old.

Has anyone else experienced this? I just don't understand how it can happen? How can I find out and make an official complaint?

Thanks

Adrian

A padron is only valid for 3 months. It's the same for everyone. You're not being "picked on" - it's just the way it is.  Go back to your ayuntamiento, get an updated padron and you are good to go. Not a good idea to start down the complaints route, especially at the doctors when they've done nothing wrong. They're just following the rules.

Hi Charliew,

It sounds like you are confusing the validity of the padron with the validity of the certificate itself. Once somebody is on the padron they do not have to keep going back to renew their status on the padron every 3 months.

I know the certificate itself has an expiry and you cannot use it for official purposes after that expiry period. However, that is not my situation. I obtained the certificate in April 2021 and used it first for the UE registration in May 2021 and then used it again to obtain my SIP card in June 2021. Now when I go back to medical center a year later and present my SIP card (not the Padron certificate) I am being told that my SIP is no longer active because I have been removed from the padron. The expiry period of the certificate is not relevant.

Hello

I understand  this but, as suggested you should get a new padron to replace the one you have been removed from. You are in effect re applying... if thats what the salud need to see then that is what you have to  do to overcome the issue!

The longer you delay, the longer you will wait for medical help/appt.

Cheers

Agreed. I already have a cita previa to get an updated certificate.

The previous poster was not suggesting getting an updated certificate. They were implying the reason for the problem was due to me not having a valid certificate in the first place and that simply isn't true. If you read my original post properly you can see that.

However, I would still like to find out what the hell is going on. It should not be possible for someone to remove another person from the padron in the first place. Even if the removal was done automatically for some reason a mistake has been made by a human somewhere along the way. Luckily I don't need emergency medical help, but imagine I did. And if I don't know why it happened, what's to stop it from happening again? I need to make a complaint somewhere, but not sure where and how. I will ask when I go for the appointment.

You're asking for trouble down the line with this attitude I'm afraid to say.

Dont rock the boat because you'll likely be the one in the water. Just take the very good advice you've been given and drop the complaint mindset.

Since June 2021 when you received your SIP card have you had any Covid or Flu jabs which would have required presentation of SIP? Been ill in any shape or form that required medical attention in the last 17 months? . ...Or could it be that you've been out of the country?

Andrew, just do as they tell you and accept what they tell you.

There is no point complaining, especially if you are not fluent in spanish.

Things are different in different countries. Having lived in the UK with a husband who is not British I could tell you all sorts of stories.

Relax and enjoy living here.

Cheers, J

Hey, hope I'm not misunderstanding  you, apols if so, but we've been in Alicante city for a year now and have had to renew our Padron every 3 months. The latest time was last week as we wanted to get our first SIP cards and to do so, we were told we had to update the Padron first. I think that the ongoing SIP card has to have an up to date Padron for it to continue to work, as the Padron triggers the Govnt. funding for services. Its a pain to keep renewingit I know, but last time we were in updating it we got the person to sign us up to CL@VE https://clave.gob.es/clave_Home/en/clave.html which we believe will let us renew it online going forwards🤞

Yes, I had the first two covid jabs last year, for which I presented my SIP card and did not have any problems. I have not otherwise used the publich health system.
