I agree that Jim was very useful for this forum - his guides were very detailed but his leaving comments on Alex's motives I have to disagree with. Jim said he could not be free to comment due to a political correct atmosphere. Another name for PC is politeness and respect. There was most certainly an anti-British mood and certain now banned members felt free to express this bias mostly unchallenged.

Yet, it has to be affirmed that the Brits in Spain are a minority and to tar any minority of race or religion is and has been for years a big no-no. I fail to see why Brits were an OK target. It was getting spiteful and I back Alex in his decision.

Calling out rogue builders etc. who happen to be British is perfectly acceptable. It  oversteps the mark when comments are made such as 'all Brit builders are like this, they are all this and all that' That is NOT acceptable.

Hi G. Long-time no hear. Hope's all good. With reference to Jim's departure, I must say that I can understand re: political correctness syndrome, as opposed to respect, gentlemanly ( ladylike) behavior, coupled-together with just "griping"  or talking about merely some other's personalities, as we are now.

But with the difference was that Jim's Guides frequent posts were mainly helping others settling in Spain & explaining concisely the ever-changing Spanish regulations. Personally, I used the guides infrequently, but often, on this forum & face-to face with others, found it invaluable, referring to this forum & hope he wishes to continue & update on his site. I hope here can remain as a vibrant friendly diverse group. V

HI V, all good, UK now for the time being - trust you're well too.

Totally surprised by Jim's departure as those guides would have filled a library. The amount of people who needed advise who were helped by his guides we'll never fully know but I bet it was a LOT !! So it's a real shame and, I read he had recent personal difficulties with the loss of his wife which would make it very difficult if it were me personally to continue. Actually, I never noticed Jim getting involved in gripes and the like as his bag was mainly to help from what I saw.

Hope he comes back on here in some way - even if just to copy any new information from his own site to be accessed here as he had many grateful followers.

All the best

I really like this forum, and check in most days although I read more than I post. On the whole I have found people to be courteous and tolerant, but I agree that steps have to be taken when people become argumentative or abusive, especially if they are persistent offenders. I am admin of a couple of Facebook groups and appreciate how difficult it can be to moderate, so I appreciate the work being done by the admins on this forum.

Agree. I think he's too involved sorting his own site. I don't think he'll 🔴 stop.💬. Regards. V

Hi all,

I have a request/suggestion, which seems to fit into this thread, rather than starting a new one.  Since Alex's response to the forum majority with the banning of certain members, I've noticed that many recent joiners to the forum and infrequent posters are positively re-engaging with the forum.  I've seen some great contributions from these members and have given Helpful votes to the relevant posts.  I just wanted to offer a reminder that these members need encouragement and it would be great if we could bear that in mind when reading others' posts and responses.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Kim

Totally agree. For new members it's akin to online stage-fright. You want to make a point/ask a question but if that's met with negativity from established members it may well be their first and last post.

K2. I only joined this forum 3 years ago.

I have experienced, (in many forums), many people with diverse ideas/opinions/visitors/tourists/residents. In this one, with many exceptions, have "upset the apple-cart". We have seen the "trolls" come & gone, & still many others, have prevailed, helped, agreed & disagreed. For after all, most on the forum are from other than Spain & would not interject (normally) from their origins, be Cockneys, Northerners, Scots etc....etc.....(I am not going to list or omit!). It has been easy for some to classify posters differences.

We (all) have gone through personal experiences, & many here and abroad have endured the 2016 UK political changes & more recently the ongoing uncompleted pandemic solutions, (for both above), or have even a categorical end finality of a factual idea.

With regards to this forum, whom many (at the moment) seem almost at "peace", wish for peace/help/opinions/amusement & a welcoming attitude to all.

I do not to want to see more unnecessary deletions/topics locked/banning or other forum-users feeling to have to leave this forum because of what may be deemed as incorrect political terminology.

Personal abuse, profanities are of no use whatsoever, but I hope that new users & old are older enough to continue & welcomed to this & other sites without fear of opening one´s mouth or having to leave.

I found an open forum here (2017) at Costa Blanca Forum, vibrant, amusing, open, welcoming, helpful, diverse people whom I wish to converse with. I can´t agree with them all & I neither can I agree with a "bland" forum.

My opinion only.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Thanks Rob - not for agreeing with me, but for not using the "old" word! 😄

Best wishes,

Kim
