Here is what you need when travelling by air or sea to Spain from the UK:

Always check the most up to date information on the following link: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain/entry-requirements

Testing and vaccination requirements for arrivals from the UK

The Spanish government requires all arrivals to Spain from the UK (excluding children under the age of 12 years old) to present on entry one of the following:

  • proof of being fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to arrival in Spain (date(s) of vaccination must be specified), with a vaccine authorised by the European Medicines Agency or by the World Health Organisation. Spain will accept the UK’s solutions to demonstrate your COVID vaccination status. Your NHS appointment card from vaccination centres is not designed to be used as proof of vaccination and should not be used to demonstrate your vaccine status.

    OR

  • documentation certifying that you have undertaken a COVID-19 nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT - e.g. PCR, TMA, LAMP or NEAR) within 72 hours prior to arrival in Spain and tested negative. Antigen tests can only be used in certain limited circumstances (as outlined in section ‘k’ of the ‘Entry requirements for entry in Spain from third countries’ on the Spanish Ministry of Health ‘Travel and COVID-19’ page) and are not accepted if you are travelling from the UK to Spain for tourism purposes (see Reason for travel to Spain below for further information).

Documents can be in either English, Spanish, French or German and in paper or electronic format. All documents must specify the name and surname of the passenger. See ‘Entry requirements for entry in Spain from third countries’ section ‘k.’ on the Spanish Ministry of Health ‘Travel and COVID-19’ page for details regarding proof of vaccination and the types of diagnostic tests that can be presented when travelling to Spain from the UK.

You must also complete and sign an Online Health Control Form

All passengers (including children under 12 years old) travelling by air or sea must complete and sign an online Health Control Form no more than 48 hours prior to travel. See Arrival by air or sea for details.

Further rules may apply if you have travelled to a country on Spain’s list of ‘risk’ countries in the 14 days prior to travel to Spain. See Testing requirements if travelling from a ‘risk country’."

Health control form website

You can send your Health Control Form online 48 hours before you travel to Spain using the following link: https://www.spth.gob.es/

Certificates of recovery not currently accepted for arrivals from the UK

Certificates of recovery - a medical document certifying that you have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months prior to travel - is not currently accepted for arrivals from the UK. See the Spanish Ministry of Health ‘Travel and COVID-19’ page for details.

Travelling back from Spain to England

The entry requirements when you travel back to England are different from the above, especially around testing. We have put together advice on this on the following link: List of Covid test providers in Costa Blanca for travel from Spain: PCR / Antigen / Lateral flow tests

This is what we done for the following trip to Spain

For a family of 4 all age over 16

2 adults double jabbed

1st of kids 16 years old no jabs

2nd of kids 22 years old 1 x jab

Before left

Ordered Fit to fly tests for 2 children  online booking drive thro at Gatwick airport generally results back by 10pm following day ours were quicker do state can take up to 48 hours cost £59 each ( not required for anyone double jabbed )

Got evidence of both jabs for 2 adults from nhs website online takes a few minutes and recieved email to verify also asked for a paper version   Recieved within 3 days ( states on website can take up to 5 days to receive )  for fit to fly

Ordered following kits for return ( need the codes of kits for return to uk passenger locator forms )

2 no 2  x day test kits from Dante labs for the 2 x double jabbed adults cost £49 each

2 no kids no double jabbed 2 x 2 and 8 day test kits £79 each

Leave kits at home for testing on return use code sent on payment email on return to uk passenger locator form

fill in Spanish passenger locator form  done the family version- once complete you get a email with qr codes can’t complete form til 48 hours before flight

This was all we needed before leaving uk and entry into Spain

Went using easy jet  - very good service and quick booking in

Checked Spanish locator form and evidence of jabs  / fit to fly paperwork when booking in

On arrival in Spain again checked passenger locator form - want to see the qr codes to scan

All very straight foward and quick

Helpful if you have paper copies of Spanish locator forms and nhs cert saves trying find your emails etc

Return to uk

Need -

Fill in uk passenger locator form from gov website again cannot complete til 48 hours prio to departure

Get antigen test done with 72 hours of departure

We were in Benidorm costs vary from 19€ to 40 €

We never booked our tests but most of the companies give you the option we had ours  done on the morning of departure ( flew at 10pm in evening ) takes minutes used imed hospital great service girls there fill in the  form details for you can pay card or cash €40 recieved results in 5 mins ( state 15 to 30 mins result back ) take your passport as need your details for the paperwork

imed  hospital Benidorm open 8-8  / 7 days a week

Again you get by email best to print off  - easier at airport

When returning

Had to show psssenger locator form uk version and the evidence of negative antigen test at check in and boarding

When at border control straight thro ( my son vent to Majorca the week before and locator forms were again checked at Gatwick border control )

Now  home just have to take 2 / 8 day tests respectively and kids have to isolate

Summary a lot of hassle but it is what it is

Entry and exit pretty easy as long as you have the tests in place and paperwork

note at check in both ways your given a slip  need this when boarding means  all Covid checks complete don’t lose it or you start again and they won’t let you board plane

This is done on both trips departure and return

Cost wise about £500 plus in tests  for the 4

costs reduced if you are double jabbed by around  £80 / person

Hi All, thanks for the invaluable info as normal.

I have a question that I hope someone can answer please. I am one of the people that had the Indian variant vaccine and I am due to go to Spain in late September.

I know that Spain have accepted it but we were planning to travel into Portugal if it is amber to visit friends. Does anyone know if this vaccine has been accepted by Portugal now as I was told that they were one of the countries that wouldn’t accept this as proof of vac

"Do you mean "Returning to UK".  Maybe returning to Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, the rules are different?

Does anybody know what the requirements are if you want to fly from Spain to the Balearics islands, like Majorca. Do you need another Spanish health form ? TIA. Ian

Just travelled from UK via Euro Tunnel, through France/Spain to Gandia. (Within last ten days)

Two Adults (both fully CoViD vaccinated) and Bedlington Terrier (Animal Health Certification ~ £130)

Asked at Folkestone to show Vaccination Certificates and AHC, otherwise straight journey through France into Spain.

If there is any advice that we can help with, please just ask ~ Paul & Bev
