You may have noticed a "Give award" button on posts on the forum. The awards button is for posts where you feel that a member has really helped you. You can give out 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze per day. It is just another way of saying thank you.

Let us know if you like this feature, and please feel free to let us know of any other suggestions or ideas to improve the website.

I voted dislike. Reason? Isn't it a little infantile? We already have a helpful button......

However if this is adopted I wont use it. I have more to do in my life than consider whether a post is bronze (quite good, more than helpful, and helped make my day), silver (pretty good and worthy of an award that is not quite gold but definitely superior to bronze) or gold (miles better than a quite good bronze, definitely better than a pretty good silver, and merits outstanding)

Where do we go next?? The top Gold awards poster?? A league table?

Sorry but.... not for me.

Steve

I have to agree with Steve. Those who click the helpful button help me decide what sort of topics or topic replies are useful, and this sometimes prompts me to produce a guide on a certain subject. Having two similar click options, to me, is unnecessary.

I think this is a nice idea, however what I would like to see is a similar arrangement for posts that are deemed rude, unhelpful or even malicious. Some replies I have seen on here are quite offensive.

Maybe if an individual received a 'thumbs down' for instance their next post could be referred to the administrator before publication.  Its only a minority of people who behave in this way, but it really isnt necessary or helpful.

I think we all know who you are talking about. Why some people feel it necessary to be rude and offensive in their replies is beyond me. The Forum is about sharing experiences, learning, helping others with advice. It should not be about abusing people when they are new to Spain or uncertain about Spanish laws and procedures.

Hi Alex,

I agree with Pete and others - we have the "Helpful" button for those members who really are, and the  "Report" button for those who are offensive.  As an adult, I'm pleased to see members who push back, as I do, on those posts which don't pass the "So what?," test.

Always good to test out new options though and take feedback 👍

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Alex,

I thought I'd share with you some specific feedback regarding the "Unhelpful" button you recently introduced.  Below is an extract of a recent exchange on the Brexit poll you set up some months ago:

POLL: What would you vote in a new Brexit referendum? - page 10

"...vote leave....just like everyone else did"?

I think you'll find that 48.11% voted to remain.

Kind regards,

Kim

I am happy to confirm that I was one of 3 people who found DeaninSpain's post Unhelpful.  I don't know the reason the other 2 people gave Unhelpful votes, but my own reason was that his statement is inaccurate and I posted a response pointing this out.

You can see that when I posted my correction, 1 person found my post Unhelpful.  I don't know who this was, but as my response is accurate and was not abusive, I would suggest that the use of the "Unhelpful" button in this instance is petty and mischievous.

This was one of my concerns when I said previously that I believe the "Unhelpful" button is unnecessary.  If there is genuine reason for complaint, i.e. a post is abusive or inaccurate, the "Report" button is sufficient.  Otherwise, polite responses correcting inaccuracies should be all that's needed.  I believed it was a shame that some members didn't believe that adults could behave like adults, but perhaps this misuse of the "Unhelpful" button proves they were correct.

On a positive note, I love the new "Save" option!

Kind regards,

Kim

I think too many people press the unhelpful button. I believe it's because they don't get the answer they wanted, or expected. This seems to happen a lot on the Brexit posts. Someone gives a good answer to a reasonable question, and someone else presses the unhelpful button, because the don't agree with the response.

I gave you a Silver Award, gave you a helpful vote, and just as an experiment, an unhelpful one too! So much choice......
