We have had our residencies for over twenty years, but they are on ,A4 blue paper and are getting a bit dog eared.. also it is impossible to take them around with us, unlike the later credit card size versions.

Where can we get these replaced and do we need to go through the same channel as people applying for their new ones, or is there a fast track?

Thank you.

Wait until the end of the year and they will have to be changed for a TIE.

With 20 years residencia you should get a permanent TIE straight away.

How you do it is described at the end of my residency guide but, as Ray says, there's no point bothering.

Will applying for a TIE be mandatory for those of us with the green residencia card?  According to GOV.uk and various other seemingly official sources, they are stating ~

" If you arrive in Spain before 31 December 2020, you will be able to register as resident in Spain under the current rules, and will have your right to residence in Spain protected for as long as you remain resident "

Green cards obtained before the end of the transition period will subsequently serve to accredit legal residence in Spain and benefit from the provisions of the Withdrawal Agreement "

Does anyone know if there is an official Spanish take on this? I can't find anything on "La Moncloa"

Spain haven't yet published what their requirements will be, but for example look at:

Jim's Guide - The Brexit Withdrawal Agreement

Whether or not we will transfer our residency certificates to a TIE, or an equivalent, and what we will need to do in order to effect this transfer, still has to be defined.

Don't be influenced by what you see on Gov.UK - they've been totally wrong so often that they've lost all credence as far as I'm concerned.
