Hello

It's a pain & quite expensive too. A few years ago a friend of mine tried (Irish lady  marrying an Englishman). All  the required documents /certificates etc had to be sought  from the  original weddings/divorces and sent to Spain and  then everything then had to be translated into Spanish, before they could start to book anything here.

Months into the procedure, they gave up  and went to Gibraltar & got married here.

Cheers

Congratulations on your new home in Spain and your wedding plans.

Like above,  I know of an Irish couple who wanted to get married in Spain.    The paperwork was too much.

So firstly they got legally married in a registry office in Ireland.

Then they travelled to Spain and had a ceremony performed by a humanist on the beach with family and friends present.

All arranged with the help of a wedding planner.

Good luck with your plans.

Maria

Hi congratulations 🎉

I have been looking into the possibility of getting married in Spain for awhile now. It is a long process with a lot of paperwork.

I’m originally from New Zealand and partner is English, both divorced. As well as all the original paperwork (dated within the last 3 months) it has to be translated by a proper Spanish translator, apostled, and stamped by a notary. You also need paperwork from the consulate to say you can legally marry. Then the fun starts when you register your intent to marry at the local office and wait for approval.

It is definitely possible but time consuming (can take up to 6 months just to get everything in place) and expensive getting all the paperwork together.

I think we will probably end up getting married in Gibraltar as it seems easier and the marriage is still recognized in Spain.

We got married in Gibraltar  also. We were living in Portugal at the time and it was too much red tape and everything had to be translated in portugese.

You have to stay in Gibraltar I think at least two or three days to get married there.

Lovely hotel in the centre of Gibraltar called the Elliott Hotel  we stayed in.
