Hi we had a fire in our home office and all our papers including title deeds for our holiday apartment were destroyed. Can we get copy of them and if so how? Thanks

Sorry to hear about the fire. The notary who finalised the property purchase will have the escritura on file, so should be able to provide a copy. Your solicitor may also have a copy, but may charge more than the notary.

Thanks for that Jim do you think that the bank manager would be able to help as we're not sure who the notary was.

The bank might be able to help if you bought with a mortgage, but I'm not sure - no harm in asking.

Did you go to the notary yourself when the purchase was completed, or did your solicitor do it with power of attorney? If you went, can you remember where the notary office was?

I don't know how mortgage purchases work - it may be that the bank retain the escritura and you just get a copy.

Thanks Jim we'll be over later in the year so we'll go see the bank manager he may have the information as we pay the mortgage to them.
